Summer is better known as “festival season” to music lovers in the Midwest. With Chicago being one of the biggest music festival capitals in the country, there are a variety of festivals around the area that are sure to keep music lovers busy this summer. Here is your ultimate guide to Midwest summer music festivals!

Lollapalooza

August 2-5, Chicago, Illinois

The popular festival, that has recently extended to four days in recent years, is held in Grant Park and is one of the biggest festivals in the world. The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Camilla Cabello, Arctic Monkeys and Dua Lipa are just a few of the over 150 bands and artists in this year’s lineup. There are still general admission tickets left, as well as some VIP, platinum, hotel package and “aftershow” tickets available for those interested.

Summerfest

June 27-July 8, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Summerfest is a nearly two-week event with hundreds of performers from every genre of music. Across 13 stages, artists and bands perform throughout the day all the way until midnight. Nighttime firework shows are scheduled throughout the festival as well. Headliners include Imagine Dragons, Halsey, J.  Cole, Def Leppard, Kesha and Marshmello. Single and multiple day passes are available.

Grandstand at Illinois State Fair

August 9-19, Springfield, Illinois

The 10-day-long festival in central Illinois has music, rides, attractions and competitions. There are also campsite locations for those wishing to camp out. Boy George and Culture Club, Foreigner with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Gym Class Heroes are just a few of the performers. Pre-show tickets, regular tickets and VIP tickets are available.

Fair Saint Louis

July 4-7, St. Louis, Missouri

Fair Saint Louis is an annual event held during the Fourth of July. The festival at Gateway Arch Grounds features live music, specialty performances and fireworks free of charge. While this year’s lineup isn’t announced just yet, past performers include Flo Rida, Lee Brice, Akon and The Band Perry.

Pitchfork Music Festival

July 20-22, Chicago Illinois

This annual three-day festival is held at Union Park and is organized by Pitchfork Media. It focuses on hip-hop, rap, alternative and dance artists. Tame Impala, The War on Drugs and Courtney Barnett are just some of the many performers. Tickets are available.
