Your Guide to Minimalist Style Fashion

While keeping my finger on the pulse of the fashion blogosphere, I have noticed that every blogger – girl or guy, mainstream or up and coming – has labeled their outfits with #minimalist. In the last five years, the increasing interests in minimalist aesthetics in the fashion blogging community has led to a strong movement.  Minimalism is constantly changing due to many different opinions and everyone’s own interpretations of what minimalistic style really is. But there is a common thread that ties it all together, less is always more in this latest trend to sweep over the fashion world.

Going Back To The Basics

Basics are in demand higher now than ever. Basics are stylish and are a must-have in your wardrobe. So it’s time to put away those flashy print pieces of clothing and tone down your closet. Revamp your wardrobe with tees, button-downs, chic blazers and solid colored bottoms (no washed out hues). The trick is to make sure that you stick to simple colors and cuts.

Grayscale Effect

Say goodbye to all those colorful sets with loud and flashy prints on them. Sticking to the bare minimum with color is as minimalist as one can get. That being said; the grayscale effect is ideal in achieving this style. A wardrobe in shades of black, grey, and white with a bit of silver accents. But to fully rock the grayscale look, my biggest tip is to play around with different textures to really make your outfit stand out, despite not having much color.

Neutrals

While grayscale is a big part of minimalism, another major contender is neutrals. Earth tones and nude palettes add warmth while still remaining simple to any wardrobe. Soft hues, such as beige, khaki, rich olives, browns, and blues are what wearing neutrals is about. Wearing pieces with solid, muted colors and added texture differences keeps the outfit exciting.

Cuts and Shapes

The most amazing thing about minimalistic style is the play on simple lines and geometric shapes. You take pieces of clothing, let’s say a black and white grid top, and find it in a unique box shape and cut and suddenly- a basic pattern becomes a work of art (who wouldn’t want to have eye catching designs on them). By finding and adding pieces with with clean tailoring, modern silhouettes and impeccable details; you instantly amp up your wardrobe so many levels.

There are many different takes on what minimalist style is about and believe it or not, I just touched the surface. However, keep simplicity with a twist in mind when tackling on how to give your wardrobe a minimalist makeover.
