University of Central Florida is a unique school with a rich history, an ultra-diverse student body, and its own little quirks that make it special. Whether you’ve been here for a semester, four years, or more, here are just a few definite signs you go to UCF!
Because come on, who even wears lanyards to school anymore, anyway? When I got a lanyard at my orientation, the first place I put it was not on my neck, but in my dresser drawer. Wearing one around my neck just takes me back to the days of high school (or as I like to call it, the strangest four years of my life). They’re definitely good for your keys, though, so let’s not rule them out completely!
Were you ever scared of squirrels at some point in your life? Worried they would bite your finger off if you got too close? At UCF, your fear will disappear before you know it. The squirrels are so nice and peaceful, plus they’re used to humans now! They’re also the coolest campus squirrels in America, so if you’re on good terms with one of them, you’re set for life.
It’s no secret that UCF is one of the largest campuses in the country, which means between classes and places you need to go around campus, you should expect to burn a few calories. Have a class at CB1, and want to go to Starbucks afterward? That’s practically a walk in the park. But is your class in the Engineering building and you need to go to Dunkin’ Donuts afterward? Be prepared to sweat a little. Ain’t no such thing as Freshman 15 at UCF!
Admit it! You’ve done this before, haven’t you? You’re writing your essay at the last minute, two hours before 11:59 PM with little bouts of Netflix in between. You write the word night…or so you think, because the word “knight” shows up on your paper. It’s okay, it just means that you have an immense amount of pride for your school! Here’s a tip: consider leaving it there on purpose to see if your professor will give you brownie points.
Depending on if you’re an introvert or extrovert, Market Wednesday outside Student Union can be a great thing or dangerous territory to walk through. If you’re extroverted, you will thrive off seeing so many people scoured about advertising their organizations and selling their merchandise! But if you’re introverted like me, you’ll probably find a longer way to get to your destination because just being around that many people can be enough to drain your energy for the day.
I was walking to my final exam last year and this girl, who was actually on her way to the same exam, was on her phone. I witnessed her just casually walking right on the Pegasus and I almost died. Seriously, I felt my heart drop out of my chest. Of course, I avoided the Pegasus, but seeing people walk on it unknowingly is enough to make a fellow knight feel some type of way. Which brings me to my last point….
At UCF, you’re never truly alone. Whether you feel like you’re struggling financially, socially, mentally, physically, emotionally, whatever, UCF’s got your back! From the Knights Pantry to CAPS, to even the lost and found, someone is always looking out for you! UCF may be a huge school, but no matter what you’re going through whether it’s big or small, you’re constantly surrounded by fellow Knights who may be going through the same thing as you and want nothing but the best for you, just like they do for themselves. At UCF, we’re a family. To quote Lilo & Stitch, “Family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten.”
