We all have a favorite TV show that involves an amazing couple, a love triangle, or a couple that should have never happened to begin with. Weather we want to admit it or not, bad television couples get our attention and keep us wanting more. They want us watch seasons and seasons of the show awaiting that happy soap opera ending.
I am an office fanatic. I’ve watched this show all the way through at least five or six times. Them being together never fails to make me mad. There wasn’t a single thing about it that made me like them as a couple. You could tell when watching that Pam was never into their relationship, and she was into Jim a lot more. Pam and Roy were High School sweethearts and were engaged for three years. The reason why this couple is so hated is because Roy was borderline abusive to Pam. While he wasn’t physically abusive, the way he treated her was disgusting. He was extremely sexist and never supported Pam on her dreams of being an artist. He also was very controlling and seemed to have major anger issues. Proof of this is when he found out that Pam and Jim had kissed, and he came barging into the office threatening and trying to beat Jim up. When it comes down to television couples, they weren’t the worst ones but they were definitely up there
Gossip Girl is another show that I have watched all the way through multiple times, and this is yet another television couple that makes my blood boil every time I see them interact. There were so many television couples in this show that were terrible, but this one takes the cake. It honestly feels like the writers of this show ran out of ideas and threw these two together. The two started out enemies, and then when Dan and Serena became a couple we only saw Dan and Blair interacting when Serena was involved. In the following seasons they ended up developing a real friendship which was really nice to see, but it should have stopped there. Their romance was super short lived, because everyone and their dog knew the bond between Blair and Chuck was unbreakable. Blair and Dan left the audience feeling super confused. Even though the two made great friends, they acted often like frenemies at times and really should not have been anything more than friends.
Ronnie and Sam from Jersey Shore are arguably the worst couple on planet earth. With the rockiest romance, this couple was was terrible. They started dating in the summer of 2009, which was the first season of the show. By the end of the love season one reunion special, they were broken up. They broke up and got back together at least three times every season of the show, and there are six in total. I was a bit young to be watching Jersey Shore in real time, but when I watched the show in full when I was old enough to understand what was actually going on, their relationship completely shocked me. What is even more concerning is the other people on this list are fictional characters, while their relationship was actually real. All of their castmates absolutely hated them being together and just wanted them to stay broken up the entire time. The whole thing was beyond toxic. Some may call is verbally abusive. One scene that sticks out in my head is when Ronnie went on an angry rampage and destroyed all of Sam’s stuff, her glasses, and her entire side of the bedroom. Even after that fight they got back together which I thought was just insane. There have been countless verbal screaming matches where they both said unthinkable things to each other, and Sam even punched Ron in the face for being friends with Jenni. Like other shows, there are terrible television couples but they are terrifying because it was a real relationship.
I know what you’re thinking, so many people loved this couple together. While they did have a cute relationship at times, it was definitely still bad. It was pretty a very toxic situation. There are many things wrong with this television couple. The first reason being she was only 16 when they first met and hooked up in a random bar. She then finds out that Ezra is her high school English teacher, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting him. Sure, we have all had a small crush on a young teacher or though they were attractive in general, but the two of them are just next level. He wasn’t even a good boyfriend to Aria on top of all of the teacher and student stuff. They were on and off the entire show, and extremely problematic. So many television couples romanticize the idea of being in a relationship with your teacher, but they take it to the next level. The fact that they were so on and off is a lot to put onto a 16 year old girl. The show pretty much romanticizes statutory rape and being in love with your teacher.
So many television couples are super toxic. To me, this is the most fictional one that I think takes the cake. This is probably shocking, however, the two were just not good together from the start. The whole thing was a constant game. They both had extremely narcissistic tendencies that made them awful influences on each other. The dishonesty and manipulation is what got them in jail in the first place, and they clearly never learn from their mistakes. They continue to hook up throughout the series when they both knew it was a terrible idea and going to hurt both of them in the long run. People really loved them together, and I have to admit when it was good between the two of them, I enjoyed it as well. However, looking back at the show as a whole, they should have never got back together to begin with because the relationship was one giant mess. Alex is the one that got piper in trouble in the first place, so why she would want to be in an romantic relationship with her is beyond me.
