10 Of The Worst Customers You Will Encounter In Retail
Working in retail can be tough, from long hours, frustrating pay, and crazy customers that will make you want to lose your shit. Here are 10 Of The Worst Customers You Will Encounter In Retail.
1 . It doesn’t scan so it must be free
This seems to be a customer’s favorite line. If an item does not have a tag or if it does not scan, it does not mean it will be free. In most cases, the SKU will have to be manually typed in or item can be searched. Nothing is free, so stop asking.
2 . My coupon is expired, but I need you to still accept it
Expiry dates are on coupons for a reason. In many cases, the coupon is removed from the register once the valid dates have passed. If everyone else has to come on time to get their discount, so do you.
3 . Can I have a discount
In contrast to the above retail shopper, this one does not have a coupon, but they expect you to pull one out of thin air. While most stores offer a military or senior citizen discount, and will gladly apply it, if you do not fall into those categories there is not usually something that you can do. You do not get a discount “just because you spend a lot of money.”
4 . The field trip
This retail shopper brings their entire family; parents, grandparents, and children on a simple shipping trip or running errands.
5 . The mass returner
I can regretfully say that I have been some version of this retail shopper a few times in my life. As an impulse buyer, I have found myself in the customer service line, more times than I would like to admit. The mass returner does frequent returns, not have receipts and wants cash back instead of store credit.
6 . Wild kids
In most cases, kids do not like shopping, especially if it is not for them. This retail shopper has a cranky child (sometimes children) with them. These kids want a toy, they want a drink, they want a snack, they want to go home basically, they want to be anywhere that is not out running adult errands.
7 . I need the manager
In every retail store, there is a manager who is tasked with dealing with all kinds of ~crazy~ customers. This retail shopper does not believe any information that the employees tell them, even if is exactly word for word what the manager will say.
8 . The Early bird
These are the retail shoppers who are waiting in the parking lot at 9:30 AM, waiting at the door at 9:45 AM, and if your store is not opened exactly at 10 AM, be prepared for angry knocks on the glass.
9 . The late night shopper
In today’s world, it is common knowledge that most stores and malls close early on Sundays. But despite this general practice, families would always show up at shopping centers right before closing and are legit shocked when they learn that they do not have ample time to shop around and pick out items.
10 . The personal shopper
For an unknown reason, some customers assume that during your scheduled shift, you do not have any actual tasks. For this retail shopper, general store directions are not good enough, they want to be walked to every aisle and want you to hand pick every item for them.
