10 Workouts To Try For When You’re Sick Of The Gym
I have a confession to make: I really hate the gym. I can’t be the only one, so I wanted to share my favorite workouts to do when I’m feeling uninspired by lifting weights and running on the treadmill. These workouts are interesting and, more importantly, fun! Try these when you just can’t bring yourself to trudge to the campus gym. You’ll thank me later!
1. Go For A Hike
This is one workout you can do any day of the week no membership required! Hiking is not only good for your body, it’s good for your mind. It gives you the chance to disconnect from your phone for a while, and get rid of all the stress from the day. Use the app Alltrails to find a great hike near you!
2. Go Dancing
What 20 something-year-old doesn’t love to dance?! Hit the club with your friends and you’ll have so much fun you won’t even realize you’re getting a workout. Don’t have time (or the funds) to go out? Blast some music at home and go crazy with your moves. You’ll definitely work up a sweat!
3. Rollerblade!
This workout tones your legs and core muscles, and you can have fun with friends while doing it. It won’t even feel like exercise when you’re rolling through the city seeing new things! Plus, it’s easy to find rollerblades in super cute colors.
4. Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga
Nothing beats this workout when it comes to strengthening your core. You’ll utilize a lot of energy trying to stay upright on that board, let alone do yoga on it! Start out with simple moves like a downward facing dog, and flow through a sun salutation when you feel balanced. If you fall in the water, who cares! This workout is all about challenging yourself and trying something new.
5. Give Capoeira A Try
This insanely fun and stimulating workout originated in Brazil but has since become a major trend in the workout world. It combines dancing and martial arts to get your blood pumping and different moves to increase strength and flexibility. Watch some YouTube videos to get inspired– this is one you can do at home! Or take a friend and try out a class.
6. Sweat It Out In A Boxing Class
My sister and I tried a boxing class, and it was the most fun we’ve had in a while! This workout involves lots of punching and kicking as high as you can, so you can get a sweat in while letting go of anger and stress in a healthy way. Do the moves with confidence and you’ll feel like you really accomplished something after this workout!
7. Take An Aerial Fitness Class
This is one of the most unique workouts you can do. You’ll spend 50 minutes being guided through different moves while balancing in a fabric hammock. It’s extremely challenging but worth the struggle. This workout will build strength and tone your whole body. Find a class in your city and give it a try!
8. Find An Underwater Spin Class
Everyone knows about the workout magic of a good spin class. But an underwater spin class? That’s next level! This intense workout improves balance and agility as you spin as fast as you can underwater. This is a great activity to try if you have bad knees as the resistance from the water makes it low impact. Trust me, it sounds like a walk in the park, but this crazy workout is anything but!
9. Bokwa
This workout focuses on using hip hop moves to give you a crazy, cardio-intensive sweat session. There’s plenty of room for improvisation, so you’ll never have to feel like the rest of the class is doing something you can’t do. This is another workout you could easily do at home, just make sure you have plenty of room to dance around!
10. Go Pole Dancing
This sexy workout is one that will tighten your core and make you feel empowered. There’s no doubt you’ll find a community of supportive women in pole dancing classes, so you could make a few friends while getting fit!
Pole dancing is so popular now you should have no problem finding a class near you since you probably don’t have the equipment you need at home. Don’t take yourself too seriously with this one. It’s all about having a good time while learning new moves!
