Why You Shouldn’t Freak Out Over Not Knowing Everything In Your 20s
Freaking out over not having everything figured out yet? Finally hitting your 20s and starting to feel anxious about not being where society thinks you should be? No worries! Here are a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t be obsessing over not knowing where you’re heading in your twenties!
Everyone Walks A Different Path!
Some people hit the ground running while others are late bloomers. No path is right or wrong and everyone has their own personal goals and ambitions. When you’re in your twenties, you’re in an awkward phase of finally tasting adulthood. You’re given ultimate freedom with minimal reasonability besides supporting yourself and staying alive. If you already have kids that’s a different story but most people are either still in college or graduating and joining the workforce. No matter your current position, as long as you’re making progress there’s nothing to be shameful about.
Nobody Has It Figured Out!
Despite what your parents or older friends and family may say, nobody at the same stage as you had it all figured out. In hindsight, your older friends and family may have worked everything out but I can guarantee that they went through similar phases of anxiety and self-doubt. You gotta remember that while their advice may be decent on its own, the world was a different place whenever they faced the trials and tribulations of a twenty-something. The same methods that were used or the same plane that got them through their twenties might not apply in 2019. By all means, give your “elders” the respect they deserve but don’t mentally attempt to live up to the standards they may place on your journey through young adulthood.
Time Of Exploring!
While you shouldn’t dive headfirst into hardcore drugs, your twenties are meant to be a time of experimentation. You’re steady forming your identity and career while building towards your later years. In a sense, you’re meant to have fun while learning more about yourself and the kind of life you want to lead. Some people undergo this process in creative ways but no way is necessarily the wrong way. I personally would avoid destructive paths that you know could derail your progress but again this your life to lead. As long as you can live with little to no regrets, more power to you!
Your 20s Are Just Ten Years!
This falls into the thought process of not placing such an importance on these years. Yes, you should enjoy them to the fullest but isn’t this true of all of your years? After twenty-nine, are we supposed to immediately become miserable? No! Don’t feel so much pressure over experiencing any and everything the world has to offer in only ten years! As I stated before, focus on becoming a better version of yourself while taking advantage of every opportunity the world throws your way.
Too Easy!
In a similar vein the previous reason, if you figured out everything there is to know in your twenties, wouldn’t life become a tad boring? Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be financially stable this very instance, but I find pleasure in the struggle. Meaning that finally reaching my goals will be so much more satisfying after achieving them at my own pace. If I could just press a magic button and have all my cares wiped away, I’d honestly be bored to tears. I know… this sounds like the definition of a first world problem but I’m trying to detail the satisfaction of overcoming a situation through your own merits. As long as your constantly improving and striving towards your goals, there’s no need to worry about not reaching certain milestones put in place by society.
