Red Rocks Amphitheater is a National Landmark located in Morrison, Colorado about 15-20 Minutes from downtown Denver. It is the one place you have to see a concert! Why? Imagine sitting outside, in a gorgeous theater where the natural surroundings are made by gorgeous mountain rock. Red Rocks sits 6,450 above sea level. It has gone through several names of Garden of the Angels, to Garden of the Titans, but has always been known and is now known as Red Rocks. The walls of the amphitheater date back to Jurassic times as dinosaur tracks exist nearby in the state park. John Denver recorded some televised concerts here as well as Stevie Nicks, Barenaked Ladies and Tesh. It has been featured on South Park and the Amazing race season 9 started and finished at Red Rocks. Here are some top reasons to see a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Red Rocks Amphitheater has been around for 75 years. It calls patrons and performers alike. Artists want to perform there and once you see all it has to offer, you will want to see a show there. Surrounded by gorgeous Red mountain rock on all sides with the stage below, it offers the perfect concert venue.
Not only do you get a gorgeous view of the stage and venue from Red Rocks, especially with concert lighting offering a cool vibe, but you can also see the Denver skyline as well as the gorgeous plains from the theater and surrounding rock formations. At the top of the venue, it feels like you can see for miles.
That is one reason Red Rocks Amphitheater was even built. With the natural rock formations, the sound in the natural made space is insane. The stadium seating was added in by using natural rocks from the area as well helping aid the audience to a comfortable and happy experience.
What I mean by this is that rain or shine, the show will go on. You won’t ever have to worry about your favorite artist cancelling because Red Rocks has a policy to keep the show going on. Let’s face it. During concert season in Colorado, it really doesn’t rain. In fact, it really doesn’t rain much in Colorado at all. So pack your raincoat just in case, but never fear that Red Rocks wants you to have a good time either way.
Red Rocks Amphitheater offers intimacy in a large venue. You’re not in a big arena squinting to see who just walked on stage. Every seat in the house is good and they do offer two large monitors to get the up-close view anyway. There are no poles in your way. It is just one large proscenium audience. So your sight lines are always good.
Unlike most venue, Red Rocks allows you to bring in your own food. They have concessions on site as well as alcohol sales, but you are allowed to bring in food. Which is rare these days. If you go you should know to either get your food ahead of time or pack your own as there are a lot of stairs to climb so once you are in your seat, you might as well stay put.
The parking lots are plentiful but kind of far away. There are a lot of stairs inside Red Rocks Amphitheater but also a lot to get up to the doors alone. It is part of a mountain after all. So come early, get a parking spot and find a great place to tailgate! You surely will not be alone!
Next time you are in Denver, check out Red Rocks Amphitheater. If you can’t make it for a concert there are hikes all around it, it’s a great place for photos. I should know. I had my wedding photos there. Wedding, family photo, maternity, and senior pictures. If you are just visiting, you will see people everywhere with a camera. They also host movies on the rocks in the summer and yoga classes on the weekends and an Easter Sunrise Ceremony. Nothing compares to a concert, but if your schedule doesn’t fit that, there are other opportunities to see this natural wonder.
