Why You Should Look Forward To Being An Adult
As soon as you turn 18, you are considered as a legal adult. Adulthood is such scary thing. We no longer rely on our parents for everything and we are sent off into the world to fend for ourselves. This is such a scary feeling to be a full grown adult. Who wants to pay taxes and worry about losing their job? The thing is there is actually a lot of perks to being an adult. Aging should not be a bad thing. I mean every single person ages, so we might as well just accept it and find excitement in it. Being young isn’t all that cracked up to be anyways. Below are some reasons why you should look forward to being an adult.
1. No more school
Most kids go through about 14 to 18 years of school. That is a lot of time spent studying, writing, and doing homework. Not only is it a lot of work, it is a time where a lot of kids go through emotional distress. This can be caused from social isolation, withdrawal, lethargy, bullying, etc. In 2016, studies found that about 2/3 of college students suffered from overwhelming anxiety. This increased 50% over the 5 years prior. Not only is anxiety increasing over children, depression keeps increasing as well. In high school, teens experience the highest levels of depression and anxiety. As you age, you find that the high school cliques are literally so stupid and all that drama just fades away.
2. Freedom
I think we all have been annoyed with our parents for not letting us go out to a party or even just let us hangout with our friends. And, I don’t know about you but when I would always ask my parents why they would not let me out, they would just say, “because I said so.” When your an adult, you will never have to hear those words again. You are in charge of yourself and you can do whatever you please. When you have enough money to move out, you will have your own space where no one can tell you to do the dishes or mow the lawn. As soon as you are out of the house, you will feel a sense of freedom, which is such an exciting feeling.
3. Higher confidence level
As you age, you may start to realize that looks are not all that matter. Aging is a beautiful process and shouldn’t be looked down upon. When you are younger, you feel pressured to look a certain way. We want our bodies, hair, skin, clothing, and make up to all look a certain way. Today, people are getting BBL’s, lip injections, boob jobs, filler, and so much more. We see these people post on instagram or TikTok and feel like that is how we should look. Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian are two good examples of people who got work done and girls look up to them and wish they could look like them. We should be taught to love our bodies always. Every body is beautiful in its own way. As we become older, we realize that this is true and we don’t have to hate ourselves.
4. Option to do more activities
Once you turn 18 and 21, so many door open up for you. When you are an adult and you have your house house, you can throw parties whenever you want and for however long you want. Your parents can’t tell you no because it is your property. But you can do much, much more than just party.
When you turn 18, you can:
- Vote
- Join the Military
- Buy a lottery ticket
- Purchase real estate
- Adopt a child
- Purchase a car
- Get a piercing or tattoo without consent
- Sign a contract
- Sue someone
- Buy a pet
- Skydive
- Get married without consent
- Drink alcohol in other countries
When you turn 21, you can:
- Drink alcohol legally in the US
- Buy weed legally in some states
- Gamble at the casinos
- Hit up the clubs
- Go to bars
- Get a pilot license
5. More traveling
When you are an adult, you can travel more with whoever you want. No more sending your parents updates when you get on the freeway or when you get there. You don’t have to ask them if you can go anywhere. Just go! Adults say that they used to want to travel wherever but then they realized that they want to visit more goal oriented destinations. This means that they don’t want to visit Nicaragua if they don’t have any real interest or connection. The most visited spots are London, England; Bangkok, Thailand; Paris, France; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
6. Stronger relationships
When you are younger, you probably are watering a lot of dead plants, meaning that you are trying to remain friends with a lot of people who are not trying with you. Studies have found that older adults have greater happiness and fewer negative experiences in their social interactions than do younger adults. As an adult, you realize that there is no point to putting time into relationships that are not being reciprocated or are just straight up toxic. You have enough to worry about in the world today. Don’t worry about dumb drama.
7. More money
When you are out of school, you finally have the opportunity to be making more than just minimum wage. Hopefully, you will be doing what you love. Earning a lot of money will open a lot of doors for you. You can buy more of what you want or need. You can splurge on a trip or activity that you have always wanted to do. You can eat better food. You can buy nicer clothing that you may have always wanted but could not afford.
