So listen, dating is super hard. I mean it can be fun but let’s face it, it’s no walk in the park. But you know what’s worse than meeting people in real life, meeting them online. I’ve done online dating but that’s because I live in a small town city, I work, and then promptly come home. So essentially, there’s no way I’ll ever meet new people. Here are some reasons why online dating may or may not be right for you.
Dating apps are based on looks. Don’t believe the commercials when they tell you it’s based off of matching your personality with someone else. If that was the case, why is it so easy to swipe left or right on someone’s picture? We all have eyes, the first thing we look at on these apps our faces and bodies and that determines which direction we swipe our thumbs. It’s not that we are all shallow, realistically, you have to be physically attracted to someone you want to date. Somehow people are more interested in looking and swiping than getting to know someone.
You know what kind of pictures I’m talking about. It’s 2019, why are people still sending pictures that we never asked for? This literally happened to me last night. I was talking to a guy on POF, and immediately I knew, he wanted something but it wasn’t going to happen. (Pro Tip: If a person has their SnapChat as their username, 9 times out of 10, it’s not going to be good.) Immediately, he was so aggressive, excessively calling me beautiful and boo and sending so many lovey dovey emojis after every sentence. I told him right off the bat I’m not going to give you my snap if you’re going to ask me for nudes. He said he wouldn’t, but listen, I’ve been doing the online dating thing for quite sometime, I know when someone’s bull****ing me. But I was bored so I said ok, wanting to see how long it would take him before he asked. Not long after I dropped my username there they were, two pictures of his you-know-what on my screen. Then he asked me to send him two picture of parts of my body I cannot write in this article. I immediately told him to go do a very specific act to himself and then blocked him. It wasn’t the first unsolicited picture I’ve ever received. I was just disappointed because he was really cute and I’d hoped we would hit it off. However, he turned out to be like every other slimeball out there.
Having a conversation with someone online is really hard to do. Hell, starting one is so awkward. Based on what they put on their profile, you have to take that and somehow form a connection. You’re lucky if you match with someone who can actually hold a conversation.
Scenario: You see a really cute person, you swipe right, and BAM it’s a match! You start talking to each other and you really hit it off. Now, the time has come, it’s time for you to finally meet. You finally come face to face and realize this isn’t the same person you felt a connection with over the phone. This has happened to me quite a bit, more often than I thought it would. I don’t know why, I guess my radar for reading people is off. But now that I’m older and have been doing online dating for a while, I’m pretty sure I can read people way better.
