Why Moving To LA Isn’t For Everyone

People moving to LA want to fulfill their dreams of becoming a star or escaping all their issues back home. Moving to a different location can be exciting but stressful. Some people may adjust to their new location quickly while others second guess their choice of moving. Homesickness and relocation depression has affect many people who have decided to move to LA LA Land.

We often fantasize about living somewhere than realize it’s completely different from our fantasies. Some people move to NYC to experience their own sex and the city story but end up hating it and moving back home. While some may move to LA to work in the industry and realizing that LA isn’t for them. Here are reasons why moving to LA isn’t for everyone.

Distance

Depending on where you’re moving from, distance can be a major factor to why moving to LA is not for you. It’s a five to six hour flight to fly from New York To LA. If you’re afraid of planes, another option is wasting 2 days and adding extra miles to your car by driving! Traveling is an important aspect of distance, whether its traveling to LA or within the city. LA is spread out into many parts that may require to have a car. Public transportation isn’t reliable here. The bus is usually 30 minutes behind schedule. The trains aren’t available throughout the whole city. If you don’t drive, apps like Lyft and Uber will drain your bank account. People who value transportation have a valid reason to why moving to LA isn’t for them.

Money

LA is so fucking expensive! Some people actually move back home after living in LA for a year because they can’t afford it. Your rent is equivalent to someone’s monthly mortgage payments. If you’re looking for cheap rent expect to share a 2 bedroom apartment in Silver Lake with 5 other people or getting a place in the Valley. The Valley is another name for the suburbs, which means you’ll be farther from the city. It’s alway hot in the Valley, if its 98 degrees in DTLA expect it to be 107 in the Valley. Yes, the rent will be cheap but utilities will be high! If you plan on driving around the city have fun because gas isn’t cheap over here. Gas in LA is now $4.30 per gallon. You can stay in your home state or buy a Prius because the prices will keep rising. If you truly value your finances, LA is not the city for you.

Relationships

Making friends and dating in LA is trash. If you’re looking for relationships with genuine people here, don’t expect it. Everyone has a motive to why they feel the need to befriend or date you. People aren’t afraid to throw you under the bus especially if you’re working in the super competitive entertainment industry. Some people here are shallow, they won’t interact with you if they don’t like your outfit or face. It’s rare to have friends here, people usually have 2 close friends or associates. Some transplants feel the need to live the stereotype of the obnoxious Californian. If you have little patience with trying to make friends or dealing with fake people, moving to LA isn’t for you.

Jobs

It is a struggle to find a job for any millennial, but finding a job in LA is a whole other level of struggle. Depending on your career, the wait maybe longer than expected. Good Luck, If you’re trying to get a job in the entertainment industry! A good chunk of people move here to work in entertainment, so it’s a lot of competition to get an entry level job at major studios. It’s even hard trying to get a retail job to keep you busy while job hunting. I know someone who’s been rejected by Target because they were overqualified. You need a job to make money to support yourself. The chances of not finding a stable job is a reason why moving to LA isn’t for everyone.
