10 Reasons Why Establishing A Morning Routine Is So Important

It is so tempting and we do it all the time. We hit the snooze button and roll out of bed at the last minute. We all want to harvest the last few Z’s, thinking it will make us a little better rested. The desire to stay in bed until the last minute is wildly popular, but studies have shown that waking up earlier and developing a morning routine is healthier. Here are some ways establishing a morning routine can help you.

1. It gets you ready for the day

I don’t know about you, but when I lie in bed I tell myself that if I plan an outfit in my brain it can cut my get-ready-time in half. It never does. Establishing a morning routine includes planning your day, outfit and meals. By establishing a routine you are able to  prepare for the day ahead.

2. It’s good for your health

Fitting a light workout in your morning routine will not only make you feel better, but it will give you more energy throughout the day. If you set your alarm a bit earlier and go for a light jog or do some push-ups, you will get your adrenaline pumping to have plenty of energy for the day.

3. It helps establish a sleeping schedule

Waking up early means going to bed a little earlier than you are used to. Some of us are night owls, so it might take some getting used to. Over time, developing a sleeping schedule ensures that you will be well rested and more productive throughout the week.

4. It keeps your mind fresh

If you like to reserve your workouts for later in the day, taking the time to journal in the morning will get your mind moving. It could be a list of tasks you want to accomplish that day or writing down something you are thankful for or whatever is on your mind. Getting the gears moving at the start of your day is great for the mind and the body.

5. It can give you a relaxing start to the day

Waking up early and setting your goals will give a sense of accomplishment already. Giving yourself that extra time will make you feel at ease. In addition, just five minutes of silence in the morning to do a light meditation (phone off!) will give you much-needed clarity at the start of your day.

6. It will help you create a healthy eating schedule

Allowing yourself to have a healthy breakfast is so important, and giving yourself time to make your lunch and plan your dinner for the day is even better. Having to scramble around and settle for something just because you’re hungry could result in an unhealthy diet. However, with a bit of planning, you could create a healthy menu.

7. You will get a lot more done

This may sound simple but more time in the day means more time to get things on your to-do list accomplished. Setting your goals and giving yourself time to do them will make you feel much better about the laundry list of jobs that need to get done and you will feel much more at ease.

8. It will help to create more discipline for yourself

Making a schedule and sticking to it will add a little structure to your life. Setting goals and accomplishing them will help you to feel more content and successful by the end of your day which will in turn give you a better night’s sleep. A win/win!

9. It allows you to make more time for you

Having a busy day means being constantly surrounded by people and that can get a bit overwhelming. Establishing a morning routine of waking up early and having breakfast by yourself with no distractions or going for a light jog allows you to give yourself much needed “me time” at the start of your day.

10. It is proven to make you more successful

Entrepreneurs, artists and CEO’s like Oprah Winfrey, Ariana Huffington and Jennifer Aniston all have stated that they have morning routines and that they credit their morning schedules to their productive days. Have a morning routine and give yourself that extra time for you. You’ll write, meditate, workout or even make yourself a hearty breakfast. It will give you a significant jump start to your day and make you feel energized and ready to go.
