Why Bleaching Your Clothes Can Turn Your Closet Around

If quarantine has sent you into a Marie Kondo style rampage, or maybe you’re just sick of the same close inhabiting your wardrobe day after day, it’s time to grab some bleach and get creative by bleaching your clothes. It’s amazing how you can elevate your fashion game with a little bit of bleach and some Pinterest inspiration! You’ll feel like your closet has been rejuvenated in no time, plus it’s so much fun bleaching your clothes.

1. Tees, Baby!

If you’re tired of the t-shirts currently residing in your drawer, the time has come to do some fun and funky adjustments by bleaching your clothes. Grab your scissors and some bleach, it’s time to get creative with your tees! There are multiple fun designs you can do to spice up your shirts with bleach. Try using a spray bottle with bleach and water in the proper measurements described on the cleaner bottle. Next, pick a design! One of my favorites is to lay your tee on a flat surface spread out, next pinch the center and spin the edges into a circle like you would when tie-dying, then tie various rubber bands creating a wheel-like shape. Finally, start spraying every other slice of the wheel shape with bleach.

You’re going to want to let your shirt sit overnight in a plastic bag, then once dry, wash out the bleach thoroughly. If you want to make your shirt even funkier, add random holes throughout the shirt to give it an edgier flare. I recommend using clothes in darker colors to help the design you choose to make more of a statement when bleaching your clothes.

2. Denim For The Win

For those of you who struggle with letting go of your favorite jeans that are too worn out for your daily wear, there’s a way to rework some magic and get them back on the daily grind. Time to grab that spray bottle of bleach from your tees and continue bleaching your clothes by moving onto your pants. It also looks super cool when denim shorts are bleached in pretty much any shade of blue, so here’s an alternate option for those of you attending school in a warmer climate.

A cult-favorite design nowadays is two-toned pants, which are very simple to achieve with bleach. Start by using duck tape and a plastic bag to section off the leg you want to stay bleach free. Next, try to evenly distribute bleach on the leg being bleached. You can achieve this with a spray bottle or carefully dunking the jeans into a bucket with the beach solution. Just be extremely careful! Also do not keep the jeans in the solution for more than a second, as it can wear out the fabric.

3. Don’t Sweat The Sweatsuits

If you’re a fan of the matching sweats trend, but want to make it a little more unique, or cheaper, we have the solution. It’s pretty affordable to get a pair of matching sweats and sweatshirt at your local convenience stores, the problem is, they’re not always cute. That’s where bleaching your clothes comes in to save the day!

Try grabbing a sweatsuit in either a dark gray or black and get to bleaching your clothes. One of my favorite looks is cropping the sweatshirt and pants to make a shorts and cropped jacket look. When your clothes are cut and fitted to your liking, it’s time to get to bleaching. I think it looks sick to just spray random areas of the outfit to make a splatter effect. When done, simply let the bleach dry out overnight and wash it the following day. You’ll turn a boring sweat outfit into chic and edgy loungewear for so much cheaper than ordering from trendy stores.

4. Home Decor That Won’t Bore

Wanting to spice up your dorm room or apartment decor, but not sure how? Or maybe your budgets are tight and you want to switch out some minor details. Try a bit of bleach to save the day! You can turn a boring pillowcase into a fun artsy masterpiece in a second by bleaching in fun designs. If you want to get wild, you can bleach your comforter to give your entire bed a funky design. You’ll have the most unique bedding on your floor!

Maybe you like the idea of bleach design, but not necessarily for your bedding… You can use the above techniques to bleach all kinds of room decor. You can bleach a tapestry to add edgy bohemian vibes to your space. You can bleach placemats to give a fun spin to your table settings. If you can, you can even bleach a dark-colored area rug to make your space feel more rock and roll.

5. Hot hair don’t care.

A way to bring a funky and fun spin to not only your outfit game but to your life as well includes a little bit of bleach and a lot of hair. However, if you’re down to get edgy and have a fun bleached streak in your hair, I recommend going to the salon. That way you can keep your edge without compromising the long term health of your hair.

A look that is really trending with bleached hair right now, is just going ham with the first few strands of hair on both sides of your part. That way it’s a nod to the edgy style without fully committing to a bleached head. But if you’re feeling it, a bleached hair look will never go out of style.

6. Experiment with anything.

You can bleach just about anything and make it one hundred times cooler.  So don’t stop with hair and bleaching your clothes.  Try bleaching scrunchies, towels, face masks. You name it, give it a little bleach design, and watch as your closet becomes significantly cooler and edgier.

Well, there you have it, folks! Whether you’re looking to revive your wardrobe or overall home aesthetic, there’s a place for bleach in your future. Don’t be afraid to have fun with bleaching your clothes, and just remember to stay safe using the product by paying attention to bleach proportions, using gloves, and thoroughly washing the area you use! Enjoy!
