Which Fall Recipes You Should Try This Year

Fall is the coziest season ever, and there’s a lot of reasons why – hot apple cider, going to pumpkin patches, picking apples, doing crafts, getting ready for Halloween and Thanksgiving, and much more. When it comes to food, there are always some recipes that taste way better on a cold night than a hot one, and some that are way better in the summer than any other time of year. Fall is all about comfort food and enjoying all of the classic flavors and recipes that really remind you of the season. Here’s which Fall recipes you should try this year!

Apple Cider Donuts

Probably one of the most beloved Fall recipes ever is apple cider donuts. They are so delicious and can be found at most grocery stores as the season approaches, but they really taste the best when they are fresh. If you live in a small town or visit a pumpkin patch during the Fall, you have probably tried apple cider donuts. They’re warm, they’re sugary with a little spice and are the most perfect Fall recipe for any time of day. They are probably made differently in each place you find them, but they have a few key ingredients that will always represent Fall – apple cider, brown sugar, and cinnamon. If you haven’t enjoyed an apple cider donut with even a hot or iced apple cider, you must try it this Fall!

Hot Toddy

Who doesn’t love a nice cocktail to warm up with? During the Fall, the days are chilly, and the nights are even colder. Warming up with the classic cocktail of a hot toddy can be perfect for trying Fall recipes this year. What makes this a Fall recipe, is that this specific cocktail is warm. A hot toddy is made with hot water, lemon juice, honey, and whiskey. All the ingredients are stirred together. You can add a cinnamon stick to your hot toddy for some extra spice, which will totally remind you of the Fall.

Whiskey Sour

Another cocktail that is absolutely great for feeling cozy during the Fall season is a whiskey sour. This Fall recipe is made from whiskey, lemon juice, and sugar. It’s not warm like a hot toddy but is a perfect cocktail for the colder months out of the year.

Pumpkin Bread

Okay, pumpkin bread is really not just for the Fall but, you do not see it as often as you do in the Fall. Having any type of bread as a snack, or with coffee/tea, or as a dessert is delicious. We know banana bread is forever popular, and pumpkin bread should be too. Here’s what it’s all about: pumpkin puree, flour, eggs, cinnamon, and baking soda. There are a few other smaller ingredients, but you’ll certainly need these to make a majority of the different pumpkin breads that you see recipes for. Add cream cheese or as frosting on top for some extra sweetness!

Pasta With Pumpkin Sauce

It does not get more Fall than pumpkins and there are so many amazing ways you can use pumpkins to make a Fall recipe. One way is buying pumpkin sauce for pasta. Gnocchi, cavatelli, penne, and fusilli are some great kinds of pasta that go perfect with a creamy, sweet, pumpkin sauce. You can make pumpkin sauce homemade or you can buy one from the grocery store to see if you like the flavors first. You make pumpkin sauce with pumpkin puree, and mix it with cream cheese, or half-and-half for a creamier texture. There are a lot of ways to make a pumpkin sauce seasoned how you like it, but you will definitely need the puree and a cream-based ingredient for it to be creamy on your pasta (and of course, you will need spices like salt, pepper, oregano, crushed red pepper, etc. for seasonings). Add some maple chicken sausage, and sprinkle some parmesan on top for a real cozy, delicious, Fall dinner.

Sweet Potato Chili

One of the best meals to eat during the Fall is chili. Dipping tortilla chips into a bowl of chili could not be better for a cold day or night. To make chili really feel like the season, pumpkin or sweet potato chili is a great Fall recipe. Sweet potatoes will be the star ingredient of this chili, so if you like sweet potatoes, this is for you. If you haven’t tried sweet potatoes before, this is a good way of trying them in the Fall. You’ll need diced sweet potatoes, tomatoes, beans, onions, and then the meat of your choice if you want to add that in. You can make it any way you want to, but you must include the sweet potatoes for a creamy, sweet, and spicy bowl of chili. It’s important to add the right amount of spices to your chili so the sweet potato isn’t the only ingredient you taste. Add some melted cheese and sour cream on top, with warm tortilla chips on the side for a comforting Fall recipe.

Butternut Squash Soup

There’s no doubt that squash is a perfect vegetable for Fall, and butternut squash soup is just as good. When making butternut squash soup, you can obviously season it however you like but, you will certainly need butternut squash, olive oil, salt, pepper, vegetable broth, onion, and cream or butter (to make sure it is creamy). Unlike other soups with broth, you don’t really need to add a ton of vegetables like celery and carrots (unless you want to). You will need to season your soup to make it fully stand out, with ingredients such as garlic. Some recipes call for maple syrup or cinnamon. It’s up to you if you’d like it on the sweeter side, or a mix of both savory and sweet. The squash on this Fall recipe speaks for itself, with its creamy texture that is perfect for dipping bread or tortilla chips.
