What Your List Of New Year’s Resolutions Should Look Like in 2021

New Year’s Resolutions are oftentimes started in January and ended by mid-February, but if 2020 has shown us anything this year, it is that we need a new perspective on our resolutions. They shouldn’t be focused on the typical losing weight, quit smoking, or put yourself out there more resolutions that so many of us attempt every single year. While those types of goals are important to implement into our lives, going from eating junk to an all healthy diet and exercise program starting on January 1st isn’t going to last. It’s like we’re just waiting for the year to be up so we can be skinny and go back to old habits. But with 2020 being so rough for thousands of us, focusing on different New Year’s resolutions that are valuable will be key to making 2021 way better.

Don’t Take Anything For Granted

If 2020 taught us anything, it is to not be underappreciative of everything we have in life. So many of us have lost loved ones this year due to the pandemic, and lots of us weren’t prepared for the damages the virus did to our communities. If you weren’t impacted directly by the pandemic, you without a doubt saw the thousands upon thousands of stories of loved ones lost, so cherish yours and be grateful your family wasn’t directly affected.

Don’t take anything for granted. While we say it so often that we don’t know how long we have on this Earth, 2020 really put it into perspective. One of the main New Year’s resolutions to have this year is to not take what and who we have in this life for granted anymore. Tell the ones you love that you love them. Live every day like it’s your last because you truly never know.

Try Out A New Career Position

With how jobs are changing and new positions are being offered virtually, it may be time to try something new in your workplace. Whether it is an entirely new job or just a change in positions at your company, now is the time to do it! You’ll have time to learn and adapt because everyone else is still adapting to this new way of life. You won’t have to worry about falling behind!

If you want to continue working from home, try applying for a new position or ask your boss if you can continue working remotely. Maybe it is time to start your family or your kids have gotten to the age where you want to stay home more often; now is your chance! Don’t be afraid to ask for a new career position, but also keep in mind all the chaos employers are dealing with right now. Constant changes in the workforce have caused never-ending stress for employers figuring out how to move forward in their company in light of a pandemic.

Drink Less Often

With so many of us working and learning remotely, drinking during the day and weeknights has become increasingly popular. For a while there, people thought there was literally nothing better to do because we were on lockdown. Now that might be true, and most people stopped this once school and work started up again, but so many continued the bad habit. Focus on reducing your amount of alcohol and get back into the groove of your routine again.

Even if you weren’t one of the people drinking in excess during quarantine, it is not a bad idea to include this in your New Year’s resolutions list. Although it does technically fall into the category of being a typical resolution, it is still one worth trying. And, instead of cutting it out cold turkey, just cut back! No one said anything about quitting drinking entirely!

Travel Again

Now, this one still might be a while depending on where you want to go, but it’s time to start traveling again in 2021. Many countries aren’t allowing visitors in at the moment and haven’t made any updates on when they will be allowed. But, traveling is something to look forward to again in the year 2021. Make small trips that are more secluded, like camping or any trip that involves a lot of time in nature. That way, you will be able to socially distance while still being able to get out there and see the world again.

Learn How To Budget Better

With 2020 causing economic problems globally, it is time to focus on learning how to budget better to make 2021 a better year financially. Now, obviously, budgeting won’t fix all the problems if you struggled big time this past year with finances. But learning new skills and tips to budget better will help in the long haul.

Keep track of every expense you make. Set aside some money every month, even if it is an amount so small you think it means nothing. Every dollar counts, so keep a file or envelope of money that you add to every month to prevent yourself from spending it. Keep a budget planner or journal so you know which months are better financially, and focus on what you are spending your money on that month.

Enjoy The Little Things

You know those tiny moments in life that won’t make sense to other people necessarily, but they make you smile? Cherish those moments in life. Look forward to small moments that add up to a bigger picture. Small moments in life like dancing in the kitchen, going home on weekends or holidays to see your family, cooking together, binge-watching your favorite show with family and friends; no matter what it is, those moments add up. All of the small things that can make you smile need to be a priority for your New Year’s resolutions list this upcoming year. Those little things are missed greatly when you can’t have them anymore, so cherish them now!
