Here’s What To Eat With Nutella That You Can Get In Your Dining Hall

Nutella is one of the most popular items to come out of Italy (specifically the Piedmont region). It’s nutty but creamy and has a rich chocolate taste that is more resemblant of cake frosting than of a spread. As such, it is great to use and highly versatile. If you’re dining hall stores the stuff in buckets like mine does, here’s a good guide for what to eat with Nutella while you’re there.

1. Shmear it on a bagel

Plain bagels are not the worst thing in the world, but they can be tough and dry compared to those with spreads on them. A few dabs of Nutella will keep your mouth moist and make your breakfast experience much more joyful.

2. Or liven up an English muffin

Without a spread of some sort, English muffins can come off as rather bland. A good way to avoid this is to use them for a sandwich of some sort, but you can make them even better than that. Nutella’s nut-cocoa mixture works well with many breakfast toppings such as eggs and bacon but it’s also just a good sweetener too. Now that’ll turn your dreary muffin into a scrumptious morning snack!

3. Mix it into your granola

If you’re trying to choose what to eat with Nutella but you’re not a finger food king of person, use a spoon! Granola’s high fat and high energy content already tastes great on its own, no matter what kind you have. By adding a chocolate-y topping, you turn it into a saccharine delight, something not just to enjoy but to brag about, And, depending on how you serve your granola, it gets even better. A dollop of Nutella-coated granola is a spectacular addition to oats, oatmeal or yogurt.

4. Pancakes would be perfect.

Nutella is not as thin as syrup nor as soft as whipped cream. However, a shmearing of this on a pancake would be a fine addition to the typical toppings. The fluffiness of the breakfast food combines surprisingly well with the thickness of the spread. The result is a unique mouthfeel you won’t find too often.

5. But don’t cut out the crêpes!

The crêpe’s ability to be folded adds more opportunities to use Nutella to the fullest (or should we say… the foldest). A good technique is to fold the pastry in half, cover it in the fruit of your choice, then smother both the crêpe and fruit in Nutella. Fold this into a triangle and you’ll have a great snack food that’ll make any day better.

6. Pour it onto ice cream.

As a good way to finish off the delicious dessert (and this list), top it with some Nutella. The warm spread pairs well with the cold, icy treat below it. Really, it’s just like topping your ice cream with hot fudge but it’s cheaper and more widely available. So why not give it a shot the next time you’re in your dining hall?
