What To Do Around CSUN When You’re Broke AF

Being a college student is tough! The struggle is definitely real when you want to visit an artsy museum in L.A or visit an aesthetically pleasing and overwhelmingly priced restaurant near the sandy beaches in Malibu, especially when you don’t really have the funds to get there. Most CSUN students spend their time on campus going from one class or another and studying in the Oviatt Library. However, if you do have the time, check this list out for a couple of ideas on what to do when you’re broke AF at CSUN!

1. Take advantage of your tuition!

I know this may seem obvious, but surprisingly not that many people know about this! Your tuition includes a free SRC membership to all CSUN students and free access to the Oasis Health and Wellness Center (an amazing spot if you just need to relax!). All you need to do is just register and you can have the best of both worlds!

2. Every Tuesday from 10am-2pm on East University Drive and Magnolia Walk, there’s the Associated Students Farmers Market!

Sometimes if you’re lucky, different companies will come and promote their product and hand out free swag! Just last month people from the movie “The Accountant” came and were giving out free coffee and movie t-shirts to those who watched the trailer! Who doesn’t love free coffee and shirts?

3. Go hang out at the USU! Every Thursday at the USU, Associated Students gives out free food at 12pm!

The downsides? I mean, if you count waiting in line for a couple minutes, there really are none! From last week’s pumpkin pie to this week’s egg rolls (for those vegetarians non-vegetarians), CSUN is always keeping our brains smart and our tummies full.

4. In the beginning of the fall and spring semester, CSUN treats their students to an event called Matador Nights.

Free food, drinks, games, and a live DJ? It is just as fun as it sounds! The theme this fall semester was ‘We Love The 90s!’ and the event included arcade games, rollerblading, a photo booth, and a Ferris wheel! And the best thing out of all of this? It’s free!

5. This may also seem like a no-brainer, but just walk around campus!

You’re bound to find a club or organization giving out free food and swag! Just make sure to keep up with CSUN’s many Instagram pages to be on the look-out for more events!
