No one’s perfect, and we all have days where we don’t feel like ourselves were our most confident selves. This can be a tricky mindset to get out of. So I want to try and give some of my favorite tips and tricks to try and feel more confident when I’m not feeling so confident. Confidence issues happen to everyone. You might wake up one day, and you’re just like not feeling yourself, and this can be discouraging, and it’s not a very comfortable feeling. But confidence is something you will find will come and go, and we must know how to get ourselves back to places and states of mind that make us feel our most confident selves.
I’m not saying you must go out and run a marathon, but I often find that movement helps me shift my mindset. It’s a healthy form of distraction. As I said, this doesn’t have to be anything drastic. As simple as going on a walk listening to your favorite podcast or playlist. This is something that promotes positive feelings. It will help you get out of this negative headspace and focus on something else. You can also recognize that you’re doing something well for your body. Movement could be in 10 minutes of a dance cardio class to listen to music, pump your blood, and make you feel those endorphins in your body. Movement could look like a walk around your neighborhood, a run, a bike ride, or a Pilates class. Just anything that kind of gets your body moving. When I was not confident, I decided to go for even a 20-minute walk. Then, I’ll return to my house and feel happier or more confident than when I left. And I recognize that I just did something good for my body and mental health. So, if you’re not feeling confident, one of my recommendations is simple forms of movement.
When you’re not feeling your most confidence, sometimes it helps to get out of your pajamas or sweats and put on a cute outfit. You don’t have to be going anywhere, and you don’t have to be dressed to the nines. But even just changing out of your pajamas to an acute workout set or shorts in a cute top or acute throw undress might make you feel better—getting out of that feeling of where you don’t feel comfortable in your riding, just putting on a different outfit. I find it just shifts my mentality because I see that the outfit is cute, I put it on, and I have to accept that it looks good on me as well. And I think that this can help shift your mindset. I’m not saying that instantly putting on this outfit; you’re going to be like, ” Oh my goodness, now I’m so confident. But I think it will help you feel more confident and sit around in sweats or pajamas all day. So, I recommend putting on a cute outfit to make you feel more confident.
When we are not confident, it can be easy to stay in our homes and dwell on our feelings. I’m sure to give yourself a few minutes to feel the emotions of not feeling confident, but I would not let yourself wallow in it. Because you don’t want to be stuck in this headspace for an extended period of time. So, once you’ve accepted how you feel, move on with the rest of your day. Even if you don’t have plans try and leave your house! You can go on a walk, go to the coffee shop around the corner, catch up with friends for lunch, go to your local shopping mall and browse. I think anything to get you out of the house can help. Especially if you want to go catch up with friends. It’s essential, but if you decide that you want to be with friends, you’re surrounding yourself with suitable types of people. If you’re not feeling good about yourself, don’t decide you’re going for a coffee with a negative friend. That would be counterproductive. I recommend reaching out to that friend to scenes fun and bubbly and who always makes you laugh. This will help shift your mindset, so reach out to someone with who you also feel comfortable sharing, like hey, I do not feel that confident bag. Do you want to go and get a cup of coffee and hang out and spend the rest of the day together? Anything like that could help turn your mood around. And I think it’s so important to be able to leave your house and move on with your day when you’re not feeling confident and don’t allow yourself to wallow in those feelings.
If you do something that you love when you are not feeling confident, this will help shift your mood. Now doing something you love could be different for everyone. Maybe this looks like treating yourself to a manicure, turning up your full music blast and belting the words, watching your comfort tv show, or even preparing for the week. Doing something you love will make you feel like you are taking care of yourself. When I don’t feel confident and I decide that I want to shift my mindset, I will go sit outside while listening to my favorite podcast. This distracts me from the icky feeling of not feeling confident. And when I have completed the task of doing something I love, it shifts my mood to make me feel happy and grateful.
Everyone struggles with their confidence. It’s all a part of being a human and life, but we must learn how to cope with these feelings. These are my four suggestions on what to do when you are not feeling confident, as they have helped me pick myself up when I am feeling down. Remember that on the days when you want to stay in your home and hide from the world due to your lack of confidence, remember to evaluate your feelings and try and do something that makes you feel good and will hopefully lead to a more positive perspective.
