What To Do When Your Crush Asks You To Study For Midterms

While the thought of studying for midterms with your crush might seem too intimidating to even consider, it’s actually the perfect opportunity to get to know them better and to let them know you’re interested if you haven’t already. A study date is a great environment for two people to break the ice and engage in meaningful conversation. This is also your chance to find out how smart and interesting they are, what they know, and whether or not they actually care about their education—which, if you’re anything like me, can be a serious deal breaker!

If the thought of studying with your crush for midterms terrifies you into near paralysis, then read on so that you’ll know exactly what to do when your crush asks you to study for midterms this fall!

Don’t freak out

Quite possibly the most important tip on this list: when your crush asks you to study for midterms, do not freak out. Remember, they could have asked anyone to study with them, but they chose to ask you! This means they either respect your study ethic and knowledge base or they see you as more than a friend and are looking for a chance to get to know you better. Both possibilities are equally advantageous for you because if they’re not interested yet, you’ll have plenty of time to get to know them, figure out what their interests are, and determine whether or not they’re a good fit for you. And if they are interested, there is no better time to work your magic and reel them in than while studying, which is sure to last several hours per session!

Suggest a location

It is important that you choose an appropriate location to study, so take control and make a suggestion early on. Bad places to study include overcrowded areas like Starbucks, community centers, cafeterias, and public bookstores. Your own school library is a great place to study as well as a great resource in the event that you and your crush need to find a scholarly article or textbook to look something up during your study session. If your school library is too crowded or there aren’t many areas where you can speak with your study partner without getting dirty looks from those students who want complete silence, then find a quiet grassy area on your campus where you can set up a blanket and avoid being disturbed by other students.

You should also avoid overly intimate locations like dorm rooms. While a dorm room in itself houses way too many distractions to be an efficient study location, the pressure of just being in your crush’s dorm room might also distract you from just being yourself and focusing on the task at hand. For instance, you might get a little hung up on visualizing yourself in their bed—so just avoid studying in intimate places altogether!

Dress comfortably

Don’t get caught up trying to impress your crush with the way you present yourself during a study session. Dress however you would if you were going to study on your own. This is especially important if you’re trying to make a good first impression on your crush because you definitely don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard. If you show up in stilettos, full makeup, and fishnets, they might suspect something’s up.

You should also discuss how long you’re going to be studying beforehand so that you can have an idea of how long you’re going to be sitting in one spot. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than sitting down in a girdle and a push-up bra for hours on end, so plan for jeans or leggings and comfy shoes.

Show off your knowledge

Use your intellect to impress them! Don’t be afraid to speak with authority on the subjects you’re familiar with. If you want to connect with someone on an intellectual level, then you’re going to have to flaunt your knowledge a little bit. There’s nothing more attractive than a person who is confident in their abilities and themselves in general. In other words, don’t play dumb.

On the other hand, you don’t want to come off as a complete know-it-all because let’s face it: there’s nothing less attractive than a person who thinks they know everything there is to know about literally everything. So speak up when you have something to contribute and encourage your crush to do the same, but don’t get carried away and scare them off!

Take breaks from studying to chat (and flirt!)

Studying is hard work that takes a lot of brainpower, and we all need to refuel during longer study sessions. Use this downtime to ask your crush questions about themselves and engage in meaningful conversation that will help you get to know each other better. If your crush is interested in you already, they’ll be impressed by you taking the initiative. If they’re not interested in you yet, then study breaks are the perfect time for you to work that magic and show them why they should be interested!

Shoot your shot!

When you’re done studying with your crush, whether it’s several sessions or just one, you’ll want to know whether or not your crush is interested in pursuing something beyond the study date. There’s a good chance that they’ll ask you to hang out again outside from studying for midterms, but if they don’t, then don’t miss the opportunity to shoot your shot!

Be honest about how you feel, and let them know that the time you two spent studying together has made you feel like you two have a strong connection on an intellectual level. If you get rejected, then at least you won’t have to wonder anymore, and you’ll have gained experience to take with you when you study for midterms with your next crush!
