What to Do If You Are Struggling With Suicidal Thoughts

If you're struggling with suicidal thoughts then it's important to know there is help out there for you. Depression is something that a lot of people go through, and you don't have to deal with it alone.

Let me begin by saying it is completely okay to not feel strong all the time. We as a society, and as individuals, have become so accustomed to the idea of perfection that anything less than perfect is beyond our idea of happiness. There are many triggers that make us feel inadequate or unhappy, but it all boils down to the one trigger that we give the power to – social media. If we fail at screening it, and buy into everything our mind sells to us on that temporary ride, we are inclined to be doomed. Life may not have much to offer, but the fact that we are alive right now is evident enough of how incredible it is, and how easily we tend to take life for granted. Therefore, if you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts, remember this:

Acceptance (Embrace your feeling in all honesty)

When struggling with suicidal thoughts, you have to come face to face with the feelings and thoughts that you have been fighting for so long. You cannot help yourself if you are in a denial of those thoughts. It is important to remember that we can find a solution if we acknowledge that there is a problem. Put yourself under observation. Examine why you are feeling what you are feeling. More often than not, we get these negative feelings due to rejection, of not having things our way. But it is important to understand that there is a bigger picture to it, which you might not see at the moment but it does exist. It is necessary that you understand this process, go easy on your thoughts and feelings. Feel everything but don’t remain stuck.

Reach Out Cause They Care

Yes, remember those faces of people who can’t be comfortable after seeing you in pain, and who feel happy to see you smile. The people your face can’t lie to and those who see you all so clearly. We are social animals by nature. Cliché but true. Even though you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts, we are not designed to be alone. Yet when you think of it, we are all alone in this life but we are alone in it together. Everyone is fighting a battle within, and they too go through the phases of winter. We are placed together to be the support, and to help each other. We need a gift of understanding, an understanding of a deeper level because by doing so, we take a plunge into our psyche and that of others. Love has held this world together, the immense life energy that is love has added meaning to your life, so get off the selfish thought of ending your life and start living.

Problem Solving

There is an easy method to deal with the weariness of your thoughts. It might come as comical or silly, but half our problems exist because we take life much more seriously than it ought to be taken. We are paralyzed by the fear of failure, and we go with the option that terrifies us the least. But here’s the prescription. If you are bogged down and worried about something ask yourself, “Is there any solutions to my existing problems?”

If yes, and you can do something about it then there is absolutely no need to worry. Rather the need for action is apparent. Strap in and get in the action.

The other choice is much simpler. If there is no solution to it and is beyond your control then it is absolutely pointless to worry. We cannot be in control of everything. Mainly when struggling with suicidal thoughts, you may not realize it, but we are in total control of our action, and action is what impacts our life in a much bigger way. Actions and not thoughts is worthy of your attention so put your money on the right horse.

Emotional Regulation And Distraction

Like acceptance, emotional self-regulation helps you to better understand why you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts and reactions which are not devoid of external stimuli. By being conscious about your thoughts, moods and reactions, you can manage your feelings to better cope with the situation you are in.

You have to be aware with the feelings, and empathize with it. It’s only through the self-awareness that you can truly motivate yourself. Practice being mindful and the meditation can help you a great deal. You can start with simple breathing exercises, and slowly climb up on advanced forms of meditation. But if that sounds boring to you, remember, the sole idea of meditation is to direct your energy and focus into something. If you care about music consider it your meditation, if painting is your passion then it is your relaxation and safe heaven. You need to stop the unnecessarily long chain of useless thoughts. Find something you love and get lost in the feeling. Feel free, feel safe.

Bleed on the paper. Write.

I have always been fascinated with deep thinkers. I have been intrigued with their minds and insights they have to offer because I know for certain that they have a hidden mine inside them waiting to be smashed open and rejoiced on the treasure found. So it is my urge to you to start writing. You do not have to be a professional writer to begin. You can jot down anything, from poetry to one-liners to your own quotes and articles about the pain and feelings which you encounter in your everyday course. I kid you not everything that comes from that mind is going to sound beautiful. Unburden yourself, and write for you. If there’s one place you need to bleed, it is those pages of your diary.

Since you have struggled so much with inner conflicts, considered every thoughts no matter how mundane they were and reflected on it, it is only fair to assume that you are a deep thinker and a phenomenal person. You have examined the world around you, the sources of the pain and the possible solutions. You are an intellectual person with special traits to your credit and therefore, you should be in a quest to satisfy that intellectual hunger in you that you have starved for. Treat yourself with the kindness and the gentleness you deserve. Begin from you. May you be able to dive deep and find the precious pearls. There is only one mantra to it all. Do not give up.

When struggling with suicidal thoughts you have to remember, you are a part of this world because you belong here.  This place is rightfully yours and you should reclaim your position. The genes you possess have fought through thousands of years and survived to bring you who you are today. You carry inside you an invincible warrior. By surrendering to your demons that should not be there in the first place, you are betraying your legacy and the legacy of the human race. Life can be challenging sometimes, and that is when winning matters and makes the most sense. Also, sometimes the biggest achievement lies in saving yourself. So please go out there and save yourself, fight for yourself. For there is so much more for your heart to see, so many smiles waiting to warm your tender hearts. And one day you will look back and know that this was all worth it.

And lastly, this poem by Edgar A. Guest to get you through the dark and lonely hours

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
Its when things seem worst that you must not quit.
