What To Do Around CSULB
So as a student at California State University Long Beach; you study, eat at the dining hall, party, sleep and repeat. A little repetitive, right? Sometimes we tend to get into a routine without even realizing it. But here are some of the coolest things to do around CSULB, to break the monotony!
1. El Dorado Nature Center
Right off of Spring Street is one of the hidden gems of Long Beach. The Nature Center is a super quaint set of trails, ranging from less than a mile to two miles. This is the perfect nature escape from the hustle of college life. You have to pay for parking, but if you park a little farther away you can just walk in for free, getting a little more exercise while you’re at it!
2. Rosie’s Dog Beach
This amazing place doesn’t even need a description. If you love dogs and the beach, but are getting totally bogged down by schoolwork and stress, this is your place!
3. Second Street
If you go to CSULB, it’s likely that you have some friends who grew up in the town. They’ll know about this spot, for sure. This strip of shops, bars, and restaurants bordering the bay, is THE spot if you are looking for great food and some fun. Some of the restaurants include George’s Greek Café, La Strada, Snow Monster, and most importantly, Simmzy’s! Plus, there’s a Beach Store for all your college gear needs!
4. Afters Ice Cream
Okay…this is basically a holy ground for me and my friends. They combine your favorite sweet guilty pleasures: donuts and ice cream, into something truly awesome: the Milky Bun. Here you can select one of the store’s original ice cream flavors, get it “sealed” in a warm glazed donut, pick out your favorite toppings, and ultimately find true happiness. Being so close to the library, this is the best post-studying treat.
5. Fourth Street
Fourth Street has made a serious comeback in Long Beach. This is a super vintage, art-based, area of the city, but it is full of amazing restaurants, vintage shops, and other cool spots! The picture below is the Art Theater, which frequently hosts a midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. My favorite 4th street spots include: The Social List (American food), Number Nine (Vietnamese food), and Rose Park Roasters (coffee). Looking for an open-mic night gig?
