Creating the perfect college packing list is stressful. College students come with a lot of baggage and you never know what you’ll need at school. No one wants to forget anything or show up under-prepared so here is a list to keep you on track. Take a look at these essentials and happy packing!
After a long day, you’ll be more than ready to collapse into bed. Select bedding that suits your style and makes your dorm room feel like home. Neutrals are always a smart choice since you can add accents and won’t get sick of them. Get a mattress topper too so you get a good nights sleep!
Make sure a speaker is in your suitcase before you leave for school. They vary in price so you can get a relatively cheap one that will still do the trick. Plus they are small enough to store, so there’s no excuse for not having this on your packing list. From singing in the shower to pregaming with friends, your speaker will get plenty of use!
College dorms are tiny, so you want to take advantage of the space you’re given. Storage bins are perfect for extra clothes, towels or textbooks. Get a couple and keep them under your bed so they’re out of the way. They are a great way to optimize your space and you can even re-use them for next year!
It’s no secret communal bathrooms are gross, so make sure shower shoes are on your packing list. Plastic flip flops are easy to get and inexpensive so grab a few pairs and you’ll be set for the year. They come in a variety of colors and after seeing the showers you’ll be happy you brought them. Your feet will thank you too!
Take a piece of home with you to college in the form of photos. Decorate your wall or bring framed photos so you can have some familiar faces in your new space. Put them on your wall with command strips and add fairy lights to create a pretty and soothing aesthetic. Photos are the perfect way to make your new room feel just like home!
Lugging your laundry down several flights of stairs is much easier when you have a basket. Try to find one that folds up so it won’t take up much space in your room. A laundry basket will also help separate your laundry from everyone else’s so you won’t have to worry about your clothes disappearing. Depending on what color you get it can also be a pretty decoration for your room!
Fighting to catch a glimpse of yourself in a crowded mirror isn’t ideal, so definitely put this on your packing list. Full-length mirrors are sold everywhere so if it’s too big to pack you can pick one up at school. Attach one to the back of your door so it’s out of the way and easy to access. You can use this next year too and your roommate will be happy you brought one!
It never hurts to have too many! You’ll go through towels quickly so having plenty on hand is important. Instead of waiting for your towel to dry, pack some extras and you’re good to go. If you don’t have space for them in your suitcase you can always buy them once you’re there. Plus, having multiple will save you from having to do a lot of laundry!
