Creating eyeshadow looks one of the trickier skills to master when it comes to makeup. It takes a lot of practice to get your blending technique just right for a flawless final look. Additionally, we all have completely different and unique eye shapes and colors to consider when planning out your look for the day. To look at this, we’ll dive into some simple color theory and complimentary colors to figure out what eyeshadow colors can make your eye color pop.
Even though a majority of people have brown eyes, they are still beautiful, and can be brought out with cool tones or warmer, copper metallics. Some cooler tones to try out are green and blue shadows on your eyelid. If you have dark brown eyes, going with a jewel toned green can emphasize the warmth of your eye color. Pair that gorgeous emerald green metallic with some cooler brown mattes for a gorgeous smokey eye. If your brown eyes are a bit lighter, or just want a softer look overall, maybe consider a mint green to emphasize the golden tones in your eyes. If you choose to opt for purple, there are many shades to choose from. Shades from royal purple or lavender will help bring out the true color of your brown eyes and make your irises appear whiter. If you want a more everyday-friendly look, going for a warm gold or copper metallic with warmer browns in the crease could be a great option. These warm metallics can bring out the dimension in brown eyes and have just enough shimmer to rock for an everyday look.
For blue eyes, you want to pair it with a warmer, more orange-toned metallic to bring out the cool tones of your eye color. Try a warm copper, peach or gold to really make the blue in your eyes pop. Colors like these are very versatile, which means you can dress them down for an everyday look, or pair them with deeper warm browns to have a look for your night on the town. If you want to opt for something a little more sultry, try opting for a deep terra-cotta color. The deep, rusty color is a perfect final touch on top of a smokey eye, while the warm, orange tones within the eyeshadow will help make your blue eyes pop. If you want something a bit brighter for your eyelook, try a bright or lavender purple. Once again, purples tend to bring out the true hue of your natural eye color and make your irises white, making your blue eyes pop even more.
For green eyes, going with any sort of red, pink or purple shade will emphasize your eye color. These three colors might sound a bit intense, so if you’re looking for an everyday shade, try a warm champagne pink metallic on your lid with some warm tone or neutral browns in the crease. If you want to go for that bold, impactul eyelook, pack a bright pink or purple on your eyelid and blend it out with softer, lighter shades for a seamless blend. If you want a look somewhere in the middle, try incorporating a red-toned brown into your look. Blend that shade through the crease to add some depth to your warm-toned look and help show off your gorgeous green eyes. You can also try playing with some mauve-purple shades to bring a subtle hint or red and purple into your look while still maintaining a wearable, everyday look.
For hazel eyes, you can be a bit more strategic with your eyeshadow look, depending on what shade in your eye color you want to emphasize. If you want to bring out the natural overall shade of your hazel eyes, opting for a yellow-gold or a purple will help bring out the true tone of your eyes. These two shades provide a great spectrum of intensity, with a yellow-gold being more everyday-friendly, while purple shadows can be subtle or pack a punch. If you want to bring out the green specs in your eyes, opting for a flattering shade for green eyes, such as pinks and reds, will help enhance that color. You can also try a shade that enhances the brown specks in your eyes, such as a jewel toned green or a copper metallic. For those of us with multi-colored eyes, we can be strategic with our eyeshadow looks in order to bring out different tones.
Grey eyes are extremely unique and come in a variety of shades, with some showing a hue of green or blue, or staying true to their true steel color. Depending on which category your grey eyes fall into, you can strategically use different eyeshadow colors to bring out the different hues in your eyes. If you want to emphasize the true grey tone in your eyes, use steel toned metallic or matte shades for a sultry and smokey look. Pair those shadows with a smudged black eyeliner on your lower lash line for a perfect look for your night out. If you want a more day-time friendly look, opt for a silver or cool-toned beige to make your grey eyes stand out. If your eyes have a hint of green, opt for a warmer, red toned shade on the lid with a few warm brown shades in the crease. To bring out the blue hues in your grey eyes, go with a warm gold or orange shade on the lid for a simple and beautiful everyday eyeshadow look.
