8 Ways You Get Skin Damage That’s NOT From The Sun

Skin damage can come from a whole manner of different places, not just the sun. Similarly, helping your skin to repair itself can be done through food, exercise and sometimes the sun. Of course, everything that helps your skin should be taken in moderation and can be preventative.

Stress

Stress can cause some skin damage such as guttae psoriasis, which can last up to 6 months at a time, and other break outs. This is because stress can cause chemical reactions that make your body more sensitive to irritation. Stress can also prolong the healing of previous skin complaints because of these activated chemical reactions.

Dehydration

When your skin lacks water, it tries to make up for this by creating more oil. This excess oil can then create breakouts, dry areas and rashes. This is because the skin is trying to repair itself without the necessary ingredients. Similarly, without proper hydration your skin cannot perform all of the necessary requirements of skin such as ‘cell turnover’. Because of this your skin can start to look dull and dry.

Insect Bites

Many people react very badly to insect bites, with the bites causing itching swellings on their skin. However, these swells will usually go down if left aloe or treated in insect cream or ice. If you scratch your bites, you can cause the poison to spread within your arm (or wherever the bite is). By ignoring the bite, it is more likely to fix itself.

Atmospheric Allergies

Atmospheric allergies, such as hay-fever or allergies to dogs or cats, can cause skin irritation. This irritation is usually mild and will show up in a small rash on the body or swelling, puffy skin around the eyes. Again, this kind of damage is usually not permanent and can be solved by taking antihistamines and getting out of the atmospheric situation. However, if you are allergic to cats or dogs and they scratch you, the scratches can be a lot worse than normal scratches because of the allergic reaction.

Cosmetic Allergies

Cosmetics can cause burning, itching and swelling if they disagree with your skin. Again these will generally not be life altering or permanent changes to your skin but some burns can leave scars. This is why lots of cosmetic products ask you to do skin tests before applying the product fully. Products such as hair dyes especially can cause real damage to your scalp and hair growth. Whilst foundations or skin lotions that disagree can cause problems on your face, which could be highly visible.

Congenital Skin Complaints

See Also

Congenital skin complaints are skin issues that you were born with. These can be genetic or can be new in your skin. These can include issues like Eczema and psoriasis, whilst they might not be visible from birth they can occur later in life and be reoccurring throughout your life. Although treatable, these complaints aren’t curable.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is very popular, and little things such as lip injections are becoming more and more popular. Despite this, they don’t always go to plan and even if they do they can leave some long-lasting scars that could be there forever. It is always advisable to talk to your doctor before getting any cosmetic work done and to have done plenty of research as to exactly what you want and who is doing it.

Rashes

Rashes such as the Chicken Pox can leave scars long after you’ve had the skin complaint. By itching the rash, you are altering its natural life and can cause it to break and scar. You can also prolong the amount of time you have the skin complain. It is safer to follow the routine prescribed by your doctor and leave the rash alone is possible. Although marks and abrasions aren’t necessarily damaging to the skin, they can become easier entrances to your skin for micro-organisms as the scar tissue isn’t as strong as normal tissue. This is defintiely a way you can get skin damage.
