You’re ordered to isolate yourself from the world to prevent yourself and other people from catching COVID-19, which has been somewhat easy since some jobs are now remote and schools are out. And while you’re obeying your governor’s orders by staying put in your home and on the lookout for updates, you have one question in mind: what the hell are you supposed to do with your boredom? If this virus is going to last God knows how long, what are some ways you can pass the time until corona time is over? Well, we’ve got you covered.
Let’s get obvious out of the way. Everyone knows that health is very important but, of course, our busy lives get in the way. Now that your office or schooling is moved to the very comfort of your own home, you can now make your health a priority. And exercising plays a major role in improving your health and is one of the ways you can pass the time. Along with the work you have to do, add exercise to your schedule, which shouldn’t be a problem. That time you spend getting ready for work and sitting in heavy traffic can be replaced with exercising. If you have gym equipment at your house, now is the time to use it. If not, there are a lot of exercising apps that have a schedule for you to follow, just in case you don’t know where to start. Dancing is also a form of exercise, so break out the stereo and break a sweat while you bust out those dance moves.
A lot of Ubereats, Grubhub and Postmates drivers are probably scared when they deliver food, so give them a break. Improving your cooking skills is another part of the ways you can pass the time. Enough with the quick and easy meals, go from Chef Boyardee to Wolfgang Puck during this virus. Go digging into the pantry or refrigerator and get out those foods you haven’t thought to touch, instead of wasting, and research ways you can make it go from ordinary to gourmet.
Like mentioned before some jobs are now remote and schools are now online. And just because you’re required to work at home doesn’t mean you can slack off and doing your work is one of the major ways you can pass the time. For those who are working from home, make sure you are up to date with the tasks your boss hands you and that you aren’t lagging. You’re home but that isn’t an excuse to miss deadlines. Remember, you’re getting paid.
A lot of classes are now online and some teachers require their students to meet on Zoom, a website and an app for video and audio conferencing with up to 100 people. And while you are doing your schoolwork at home, you’re still required to turn in your work by the deadline, pass the time by getting the work done. Remember, your grades are out on the line. Bad grades = no diploma.
Being in the house for too long can drive you crazy. That’s understandable. Why don’t you get in tune with the earth and start gardening? Get one of those clay pots, put soil in it and plant whatever you want in them: sunflowers, daisies, roses, etc. The point is to engage in a peaceful activity that will keep you sane during this pandemic.
A lot of the time school and work gets in the way of actually accomplishing things. But with this pandemic going on some of us actually have free time. And if that’s you, then why don’t you put together a 1000-piece puzzle by yourself or alone. Whether you’re an expert on puzzles or not, it doesn’t hurt to try. And although it takes a lot of time, you might have a lot of it considering you are forced to stay inside the house. To increase your interest in completing the puzzle, get a puzzle that’s a picture of something you’re interested in like a character from a Disney movie or Harry Potter.
Netflix will never get too old considering it has over 1,000 TV shows and movies to watch. It wouldn’t hurt to skim through their content and see what you would like to watch as part of the ways for you to pass the time. At the same time, Netflix is updating its content a lot of the time with new and old TV shows and movies we love, so don’t hesitate to find something you’ve never seen or want to watch again.
You know what’s better than the movie? The novel. If you’re tired of sitting in front of a bright screen with your window shut, then turn on the lights and open up a book you want to read. From non-fiction to fiction, there are a lot of books that will keep you entertained just like a movie and enhance your imagination while keeping you preoccupied during this pandemic. If you don’t have access to any interesting books, there is always Wattpad with over 1,000 books for you to read from various writers of various ages. If you want more professional books you can always look to Google Play Reads.
A lot of you college students returned home to be with your family during this pandemic and should take advantage of it. This is the perfect time to be with the people you love because, unfortunately, we have lost lives to the virus. It’s understandable that you may have a lot of work to do, but remember that work is temporary and family is forever.
For those who are religious, this is the perfect time to get closer to God, pray and meditate. At a time like this, this world needs prayer for healing. Furthermore, a lot of churches are shut down as well due to the coronavirus, you can still attend church services not that a lot of churches are broadcasting their services online like on FaceBook, where you can start a watch party.
You can never have a house that’s too clean. If you know you have a messy house, why not kill time to clean. Not just a mediocre clean, but more of a detailed clean. Tyr washing the windows, clearing the cobwebs out of the air vents, dusting the dust off of the lamps and antiques, cleaning the gunk out of kitchen appliances, etc. Not only would you be passing the time, but you would be sanitizing your house for your sake.
You know that bass guitar of accordion you have sitting in the corner? Don’t let it go to waste. One of the ways to pass the time during the corona is to develop or continue a hobby. Again, school and work get in the way of us living our lives, and this time you can continue what you started or look for a hobby to pick up. If it has been a while since you’ve picked up the guitar, now is that time to start rocking out again.
