10 Ways To Wear A Scarf As A Headband

A scarf is flexible and convenient as an accessory on-the-go. These top ways to wear your scarf as a headband will create different stylish looks you can wear as an everyday accessory or when you need a statement piece for a last-minute date!

1. Turban Style

You can tie your scarf around your head, then double tie a knot in the front. Tuck the loose ends to create a mini-turban inspired headband! If you want to have a higher knot, simply tie three times instead of two, once you have your scarf has been wrapped around your head once.

2. Pulled Back Bunny Ears

The most classic way, is the pulled back bunny ears. This look is simply wrapping the scarf around your head once and tying in a bow, in the back. Leave the bow hanging, and slightly pull back the front of your scarf, so that the scarf lays flat and creates one band across the front of your head. You can wear your bunny ears to the side or straight back.

3. Braided

You can fold a long enough scarf that is rectangular shape, by folding in a “U” shape, then folding another “U” shape. Tie a knot at the top, which will create three strands for you to braid. Braid the three strands, until the entire length of the scarf is braided. Lastly, simply wrap around your head, slightly covering your forehead. If you want, you can use three different thin scarves. Gather the scarves together, as if you are holding a handful of flower stems and tie a knot at the top. Braid the three loose ends and wrap around your head, for a braided headband. You can add jewelry by wrapping a long necklace along the finished braid or adding a large broach or studded earring in the front.

4. Infinity

Wrap the scarf around your head once, like the pulled back bunny ears. Instead of leaving the bunny ears hanging in the back, tucked all of the ends around, to create one infinity band (no loose ends). Pull back to reveal your hair, if you want to wear more in the middle of your head. This look works well with a high bun/pony or with your hair down.

5. Rope Style

Fold your scarf in half, then half again. Twist the entire scarf, until it is in a rope-like form. Then, you can tie the scarf as desired. You can tie it around once around, for a traditional headband look, or you can tie it in the previous turban style, with a top knot. Be sure to consider the scarf type, so that your scarf is not too bulky. If you have thicker hair, this scarf headband look works best for holding your hair in place.

6. Top Small Bunny Ears

This retro inspired look is easy to create by starting with a short, square scarf, instead of a rectangular one. You want to fold the scarf in half, by matching two points. Once you have created a large triangle, begin to fold until the scarf is a long, thin, rectangle. Lastly, tie around your head, creating a “U” shape, with the two loose ends landing in the front of your head. Tie the two ends in a bow and you’re done!

7. 70s Glam To The Side

Cover the top of your head by wrapping a large square scarf around the entire circumference of your head. Pull the loose ends to the side and tie once in a knot. Allow the ends to fall, to create a luxurious draped look. This headband style works best with fabrics that have busy patterns with multiple colors.

8. Recycle An Old Headband

If you have an old headband that is no longer wearable, but still has its shape, you can create a new headband with a scarf. You will need a short, thin scarf that you can wrap around the base shape neatly. When wrapping, be sure to overlap your scarf on each turn, so that you are covering the entire headband evenly, without gaps showing pieces of the old headband. You can secure with a black or nude rubber band, or thin hair tie that will blend in with the colors in your scarf.

9. Infinity Side Bow

You can create a flower-like bow, when tying your scarf as a headband. Tie the scarf similar to the infinity scarf headband, by tying around your head with a long scarf that can be wrapped around twice. Once you have wrapped the scarf around twice, pull the loose ends to the side position you want your bow to be place. Tie in a bow or create a knot and leave the now short ends loose.

10. Headband Braid

Tie your scarf around your head, as you would if you wanted to have a flat band in the front and bunny ears in the back. Instead of leaving the bunny ears, intertwine the loose ends into your side braid. This will create a unique look that will compliment the colors in your outfit!
