10 Ways To Unwind And Destress After A Long Work Week

Long work week?? Check out these great tips and tricks that are certain to help you unwind after work and get you ready to do the whole thing all over again Monday morning!

1) Take A Bath

After a super long day at work, there’s nothing quite like a hot bath. But don’t just settle for a typical everyday bath this weekend. Light some candles, pour yourself a glass of wine, use a bath bomb AND bubbles, and play your most relaxing playlist on Spotify. Lock the door and turn off the lights, and just let all the stress of the week melt away!

2) Get Lost In A Good Book

Whether it’s an ld favorite or a new book you’ve been dying to dig in to, books are a perfect way to take a break from reality. If you find just the right book, it can transport you to a world entirely outside of your own, and if you’re looking to destress there’s nothing like leaving your life behind for a while. Set yourself up on your couch with your comfiest blanket and your fuzziest socks, and make some hot cocoa. In no time, you could find yourself completely immersed in a different story. 

3) Have A Girl’s Night 

There’s probably no on win this world who knows you better than your best friend, than what better way to unwind after work than with them?! Get into your pjs, order some pizza and queue up some rom coms. Dish all the drama, laugh about absolutely nothing, or just simply enjoy each other’s company. Lounging with your bestie is easy and comfortable, and there’s nothing like an old-fashioned girl’s night in to relieve some of that stress you’ve been carrying around all week!

4) Eat Your Favorite Food

What’s that one meal that you’ve been craving all week, but have just been too busy to enjoy? This weekend, treat yourself to whatever meal you want! It could be as simple as ice cream for dinner, a big juicy cheeseburger or that super expensive dish from your favorite restaurant. Go all out and don’t hold back, because whatever it is, you more than deserve it after the week you had!

5) Go For A Ride

Hop in the car, grab a buddy (or just go solo), blast your throwback playlist, and just drive! It doesn’t matter where you end up, or if you really ever even get out of the car! Having the freedom to go (and do) whatever you want is enough to cure those work week blues. Belt out your favorite song and roll the windows down! Just enjoy the opportunity to get out of your normal routine and don’t worry about the destination. Wherever you end up, your mind will be far from whatever stress you’ve been feeling this week!

6) Pop In Your Favorite Movie

Sometimes the best (and easiest) way to unwind after work is to throw on your favorite movie. You know which one we’re talking about! The one that never fails to leave you with a smile. You know practically every line, and you’ve seen all the outtakes and bloopers. it makes you laugh, cry and dance all at the same time, and after you’ve watched it you feel a little bit lighter. Pop some popcorn, get into your jammies and kick back and relax. The familiarity of the characters and the nostalgia you feel when you watch your favorite movie will totally make you forget all about why you were even stressed in the first place!

7) Treat Yourself To Dessert

Is there really anything better than a sweet treat to perk help us unwind after work? Because if there is, we have yet to find it! During the week, we’re so busy we barely have time to eat dinner, let alone treat ourselves to a little dessert. So this weekend, break out the cookie dough, the brownie mix, the peanut butter… or maybe even all three. Take a ride to your favorite bakery and order whatever strikes your fancy. Don’t worry about the calories, or the sugar, just enjoy whatever tasty treat you decide to indulge in!

8) Go For A Walk

Get your feel-good juices flowing, and get outside! Take your furry friend, or just go by yourself! The exercise is a great way to physically release all the stress caused by work, and the time alone is the perfect way to give your mind a little break. Forget about whatever projects are due on Monday, or that meeting you have to prepare for. Live in the moment, and look around you! Breathe in the fresh air and get your blood pumping! It doesn’t have to be a marathon, either! Just 15 minutes is really all you need to relax your mind and your body for a well-needed break.

9) Give Yourself A Spa Treatment

Go to your local drug store and grab some nail polish, Epsom salts, face masks, hair masks, you name it! Splurge on something personal and take some time out to make yourself feel great. Spend the day pampering yourself, or have your S/O do it for you! Pull out all the stops! Warm up some towels, throw on a comfy bathrobe and lounge around all day. Try out a new face mask and finally get around to painting your toes! You’ll not only end the day feeling great, but you’ll look great, too!

10) Do Some Yoga

The ultimate way to unwind after work is through yoga. If yoga seems incredibly intimidating and all you can seem to think of is women bending themselves into impossible, uncomfortable positions, don’t worry! Yoga is quite literally for everyone. Half of yoga is learning to control your breathing and quiet your mind, which is exactly what your body needs after a long stressful week at work. If you don’t know where to start, just close your eyes. Relax your whole body and take a few deep breaths. Let your mind go to wherever it wants to go! And just like that, you’re doing yoga!
