10 Ways To Style Your Dorm Room

Starting college feels like an entirely new world. Even though you may start out lonely, your dorm room will always be your source of comfort, so might as well make it as homey as possible so you can always have something that will be an immediate reflection of you. Here are some tips to style your dorm room…

1. Light it up!

Studies show that having fairy lights, specifically blue fairy lights, on the ceiling of your dorm room actually improve your sleep. Believe me, in college, you will need A LOT of sleep, especially during midterm and finals week. Therefore, light up your ceilings and get some relaxation!

2. Get a Beanbag Chair

Even though it may sound so miniscule, a beanbag chair works wonders. You never realize how often you are going to bring friends into your room until you reach college, and having beanbag chairs alongside your desk chairs, you can bring comfort to both you and your friends. Also, when you are doing homework, you can have the comfort of a beanbag chair instead of craning your neck against the bed’s headboard.

3. Fill Your Floors With Rugs

In the winter, rugs are a lifesaver. Putting your feet on hardwood floor everyday gets gruesome after a while, so having comfy rugs to cushion your feet will be such a relief when the floors are cold and when you are extremely stressed out.

4. Put a Headboard

Headboards are very useful for adding a little spice onto your bed. Along with that, it could also serve as extra cushion and could prevent you from slamming your head against the wall at night (Trust me, it happens). Ranging from velvet headboards, wooden headboards, to even bookshelf headboards, you can customize it to make it match whatever fits right for you!

5. Add a Neon Sign

Neon signs are a bright addition to your room, especially if you do not use fairy lights. Neon signs serve to show “club life” in your own dorm and can be inspirational reminders at times, especially during finals week.

6. Hang Up a Canopy

Canopies can be very gorgeous additions to your dorm room since they give an enchanted ambiance around your bed. Along with that, it can call for more privacy when you are going to sleep and can make you feel more comfortable in your own space.

7. Set Up a Color Scheme

Your dorm is all about YOU. Whether you like a bohemian style, a beach theme, or even culturally-related décor, you can set up a basis for however you want your dorm to look. Therefore, try to maintain a color scheme based on what your favorite colors are and what makes you comfortable, and then try to incorporate any extra theme after. At the end of the day, it feels nice to have a room that embodies what you love and what your true colors are.

8. Hang a Tapestry

Tapestries add a background to your room, especially because you cannot actually paint the walls in a college dorm. Since this is the case, you have to compromise. Make your room entirely your own by hanging up a tapestry to add your own taste into a wallpaper.

9. Personalize Your Room With Photos

Adding photos to your walls brings a more personal touch that will connect with you on another level. Whenever you have those moments where you feel alone, you can look at those photos and change your mood instantly. Along with that, it is a constant reminder of what you are doing everyday and why you live the way you live. Keep your head up high and remind yourself why you are studying in the first place.

10. Embrace Pillow Art

Pillows feel like home in college. No matter what, you will always have your pillows to snuggle up at night and to be a cushion to your stressed mind. With that, try to get pillows that have pillow art that you enjoy or that represents you. At the end of every day, you will always lay down on your pillow, so might as well enjoy the look of it.
