7 Ways To Save Your Hair Once It Gets Dry

Sometimes, your hair gets dry. Either the weather changes, you’ve been ambitious with the heating tools, or it just goes dry with no explanation. Never fear, there are tools, tips, and tricks that can help bring your hair back to its healthy shining glory.

1. Aloe Vera

Suprise, Aloe Vera’s magic healing properties extend to your hair. Beauty companies realized Aloe Vera’s powers and began creating products for store shelves. However, you can use the plant and extract the nourishment yourself. All across Tik Tok, beauty blogs, and Pinterest, people relish in the healing hair power of Aloe Vera. One of Aloe Vera’s strengths comes from soothing the scalp. If you want to solve a problem you should start at the roots and for our hair, that’s the scalp.

If you opt for the natural option of Aloe Vera, scoop the gel out of the leave and gently massage into your scalp. Leave it on your scalp for about an hour and then rinse it out with a mild shampoo. Additional benefits are reported to soften the hair, repair hair damage, and promote hair growth. You can read further about each of these here.

2. Hair Mask

Need something to add to your list of reasons you can’t leave your house? A hair mask provides the perfect self-pampering solution. YouTuber and Influencer Kayln Nicholson puts her hair mask on and lets it settle while she cleans her house. Talk about the ultimate multi-task with a feel-good ending.

Searching “hair mask for dry hair” results in hundreds of options. Try to avoid products with sulfates or parabens as these chemicals have been known for stripping your hair of natural oils and damaging any coloring you have in your hair. If your hair lacks the natural oils that are supposed to be there, it can either become excessively oily as it tries to compensate or dry and static.

You can always put your hair mask on and soak in a tub while listening to your calming playlist or your favorite podcast. Your hair mask treatment gives you an hour dedicated solely to yourself and feeling better. So take advantage.

3. Hair Oil & Silk Wrap

If your days are jam-packed already and you don’t have time in your day for drawn-out hair treatments. Do it while you sleep. Many cultures have been reaping the benefits of wrapping their hair in silk for years. Tossing and turning on your pillow at night strips your hair of moisture.

Now, it’s possible you won’t need to add the oil to your hair when you wrap it. The silk wrap naturally helps distribute your own hairs oil from root to tip. It’s also suggested this could prevent greasy roots as the oil begins to make its way down the length of your hair.

However, if you’re suffering from unbelievably dry hair, you can purchase an oil specific to your needs. Put it on wet or slightly damp hair and work it through your scalp to the end. You will wake up with soft and hydrated hair in the morning.

You can purchase a silk wrap you have to tie yourself or pre-tied wraps. If you want to learn more about the benefits of silk hair wraps and what oils to use, read here.

4. Change Up Shampoo & Conditioner

Sometimes, the simplest answers are the ones that are most overlooked. Your hairstylist is a reliable source for recommendations on hair products. They know what shampoo and conditioners reap the best benefits for your hair. Plus, they know your hair — probably better than you. Repairing your dry hair could be as easy as a quick trip to the store.

Again make sure you aren’t currently using a shampoo or conditioner that contains parabens. However, there’s a company called Function Of Beauty, where you build a custom formula in your shampoo and conditioner. A quick quiz accounts for hair texture, thickness, and dryness. They create a formula for your hair and give you options for different scents.

5. Cold Water Rinse

Bring back the shine that dry hair lacks. A quick cold rinse on your hair after shampoo and conditioner has been reported to leave hair looking shinier. The science behind the method relies on fundamental law. Heat expands and cold contracts. The cold water closes the capillaries on the strands of hair. This traps moisture and allows the light to reflect off the hair in a more noticeable fashion.

6. Supplements

So, we know what we put into our bodies affects how they look. So that goes for your hair too. Aptly the gut has been deemed the second brain of the body. Omega-3 oils reap benefits throughout the entire body. But it will help leave your hair feeling soft and rehydrated. Omega-3 and 6 cannot be produced naturally in the body so they need to be consumed in some manner. While you can take supplements, you can find them naturally in cold-water fish, pumpkin seeds, and dark leafy greens.

Taking  Omega-3 supplements and biotin promote healthy hair growth, and healthier skin and nails. Additionally, a collagen supplement builds elasticity in the skin and strengthens hair follicles. Here’s what’s great about product, you don’t have to get back in the shower to rinse out your hair.

A leave-in conditioner does not need to be used every time you take a shower. Start with once or twice a month. You’ll soon see the results from an easy adjustment in your routine.
