You’re thinking of trying something new. You’re probably really used to nudes, or darker lipsticks. But you’re aching to try something different, something new. Bright lipstick! You’ve never tried bright lipstick before, but you’re willing to step out of that comfort zone and get to work!
But first, there’s a few things you gotta know about rocking bright lipstick, and how to wear it confidently.
This step may seem a bit redundant, and you’re probably asking why you have to keep yourself healthy. You’ve gotta learn to keep yourself healthy so you’re looking your best! If you take care of yourself, you take care of your lips, which means your lips will look way, way better if you’re keeping yourself hydrated.
And if your lips look way better hydrated, that means that whatever bright lipstick color you apply will make you look like a deity! You should definitely invest in Vaseline or some type of lip balm to keep your lips plump and gorgeous. Lip balm is one of the best ways to keep your lips looking healthier for longer.
Lip exfoliators is another way to do so, but if you’d rather not sink money into that, then lip balm, drinking water, and being healthy is the key to healthy lips and a healthy life.
If you’re a beginner in the bright-lipstick-lifestyle, then lining your lips is an easy to get the perfect outline so you don’t mess up as much. Lining your lips helps stick that bright lipstick, and prolongs the time that your bright lipstick stays on your lips.
This is another reason why a ton of lip liners are matte; it’s meant to be there for a long time, so your lipstick isn’t rubbing off in an hour. They also prevent the lipstick from bleeding, and feathering when you put it on. Think of it as glue, but for your lips.
This step is especially crucial for darker skinned people. Here’s some ways on how to wear bright lipstick and make it look gorgeous (Props to Too Much Mouth on YouTube!):
1. Line your lips first, apply the bright lipstick, and then combine them by continually pursing your lips. Continue layering if you want.
2. Wear your bright lipstick first, then line them, and continually purse your lips to combine the two.
3. Fill in your lips with liner first, then put lipstick on top. Purse your lips to combine the two.
4. Do a combination of filling your lips and lining them. Apply bright lipstick of choice, and purse to combine.

Ah, the fun part: choosing what shade of bright lipstick best suits you? We can’t tell you anything here; this is something that you’ve got to figure out all on your own.
But as a beginner bright lipstick, try orange. Orange is a really good bright lipstick that can be toned up or down to increase or decrease the dramatic flare. Or you could go for a bold bright red.
Again, this is something you have to figure out on your own. With time, you’ll learn to know which shades look good on you, and which don’t!
What we mean by this is to figure out how much bright lipstick you want to put on. If you’re really not feeling the bold, bright color that you’ve put on, you can dampen it with a tissue and see if you’re more into a toned down version it. It’s all about figuring out what you like!
If you’re a beginner, or just haven’t gotten the hang of lipstick bullets, liquid lipsticks are a must have. Liquid lipsticks are much easier to apply, since you have a more precise sense of where the bright lipstick will be going.
The right tools for the job makes the process much easier to deal with. If you’re noticing that you’re application of the bright lipstick isn’t as good as you want it to be, seek out a lip brush. This tool will help a bit with the lipstick process.
This isn’t as necessary, but this is just an extra little tidbit we thought might work out for some people.
If you’re a beginner, then this step is kind of crucial. Start out sheer, and then build up to a shade that you like the most. Usually, a layer or two will do the trick for most people, so you don’t have to build up so much. But if you want a bold lip, then go for it! Build it like the Empire State Building!
This method of applying bright lipstick is totally optional; you don’t have to do it at all if you don’t want to. But if you’re looking for a particular shade that you think will look great, and your town doesn’t have a Sephora or Morphe store, then maybe try mixing two colors together!
Try mixing two bright lipsticks together to create the lipstick color that you want! Be wary of color theory, and most importantly, ingredients. It’s best if you try to mix two lipsticks from the same brand. This also works for nudes or darker colors. Try it out, and have fun!
When applying lipstick, you’re bound to make a few mistakes, let’s be real here. The same can be said for bright lipstick. That’s where lip liners, and most importantly, concealer comes in clutch.
If you mess up while applying bright lipstick, then just go in with some concealer! Get a q-tip, dab the excess lipstick off, and reapply some concealer on top of the spot you cleaned up. This way, you get a crisp, clean lipstick application. It’s a great tip.
When all’s said and done, just remember that practice makes perfect. No one is perfect at applying lipstick on the first try. Just keep practicing with your favorite bright lipstick, and soon enough, you’ll be a bright lipstick connoisseur!
Bright lipstick is really fun to play with, trust us. Using colors like orange, bright red, or bright people can really bring attention to your gorgeous face. Bright colors are also really unique, and usually, you don’t see a neon green lippie out in the wild. Using these tips, you’re sure to rock that bright lipstick with full confidence and style. Happy applying!
