5 Ways To Motivate Yourself To Work Out: A Lazy Girl’s Guide

If you’re anything like me, motivating myself to go to the gym is a HUGE struggle. There are so many other things I could be doing instead of sweating and lifting weights like binge-watching Stranger Things and New Girl on Netflix or munching hard on some snacks. BUT, instead of being lazy and laying in bed all day on your day off, here are some tips to motivate yourself to work out on your own time!

1. Don’t Waste Time by Overthinking

“I’ll just go tomorrow,” “I have so many errands to run,” and “I’m way too busy” are some of the lies I have told myself to get out of going to the gym. Instead of overthinking and coming up with excuses to NOT go to the gym, just GO. Get up off the couch and head to the gym! You’ll thank me later.

If it’s your first time going to the gym, overthinking will kill your mindset as well. The first time will always be the most difficult, but after you go once, you’ll be OK! It’s all a learning process and overthinking prevents you from learning how to work out the right way.

2. Find a Gym Partner

Motivating yourself to go to the gym is pretty difficult, but if you have a friend to go with you, it’s so much easier! You can cheer each other on while you get your booties in shape and you can share different workouts with one another.

Also, then you’re not alone and you won’t have to feel awkward or weird around the other people that are already working out when you walk in.

3. Schedule a Time (or Multiple Times) During the Week

Chances are that if you have “Gym @ 8 p.m.” written down in your planner or schedule, you’re more likely to go! You’ll feel the need to accomplish the task if it’s amongst the rest of your crazy schedule. Just make sure to stick to the schedule that you create for yourself!

If you don’t use a planner, pick a few days out of the week (like MWF) and stick to those days no matter what!

4. Make a Workout Plan That Fits YOU

Everyone has different areas of their body that they want to work on and tone, but not everyone has the same workout plan. Create a plan for what you want to work on. This helps you motivate yourself into actually going to the gym if you are prepared.

If you’re like me, I have no idea what some of the machines do or how many reps to do on each one, so ask someone to help you create a plan or research it online! The people that work at the gym are a great resource because they are there all the time and they probably workout themselves. They are there to help you!

5. Pick a Gym That is Open 24 hours

This will make it so much easier on the days that you chose to work out. You can go early in the morning to help you wake up, during your lunch break, after a long day of work, or in the middle of the night! Whatever works best for YOU and your schedule (and your workout partners, too!).

So stop reading this and go to the gym! Tone your abs, arms, booty, and whatever else you want to work on! Pretty soon you won’t be a couch-potato, but a lean-machine badass.
