10 Ways To Make Your Hair Grow Long For Fall

Long hair is the ultimate accessory for fall, and making it grow long will not only help you welcome in the cooler months (hallelujah! It’s no longer 90 degrees!), it will also make you look chic as shit. Don’t believe me? Check out the Chanel fall/winter runway show and you’ll immediately be wondering how you can grow your luscious locks to great lengths.

There are so many fun things you can do with long hair, which is just an added bonus. Below are all the tips you need to get your hair healthy and strong so it can grow fast. Prepare to feel hippie vibes, babes. Long hair is here to stay.

1. Get Frequent Trims

You’ve heard it before and I’ll say it again– trimming that gorgeous hair of yours is absolutely essential for helping it grow long. Your hair won’t grow past a certain length if it’s super damaged, and split ends only add to the trauma.

Don’t have time to go to the salon? An easy way to get rid of dreaded damage is by twisting sections of your hair and rubbing upwards. This will reveal which strands of your hair need a trim, and makes it easy to chop off those dead parts without getting rid of an excessive amount of hair.

2. Use A Scrunchie Instead Of Hair Ties

Tying your hair up into a messy bun, or braids like the ones above are every long-haired girl’s go-to hairstyles for days when they’re over trying to style it. But using elastic hair ties can be really rough on your hair. Ever notice wads of hair stuck in your elastic? Yeah, that’s definitely not good for your hair.

If you absolutely need to get your hair out of your face use bobby pins to hold down a bun, or a scrunchie. Scrunchies are much softer, and prevent you from making your ponytail so tight that it damages the hair follicle. Plus, they’re absolutely adorable!

3. Lather On The Conditioner

As a girl who has an oily scalp, I know how scary using too much conditioner can be. A common misconception is that conditioner weighs down your hair, making it look lifeless and dull. If you want to make your hair grow, however, then you absolutely need to use conditioner every time you shower.

This doesn’t mean you should always shampoo. A lot of shampoos you find at the drugstore are loaded with sulfates, which strips your hair of the healthy oils it needs to grow long. Conditioner will keep everything healthy and shiny, as long as you only use it on the ends.

4. Ditch Your Straightener And Curling Iron

Tools that require heat can seriously damage your hair, even if you use one of those fancy oils to protect it. There’s no amount of conditioner you can use to save your hair from the terrible side-effects of over-straightening, unfortunately. Let your hair air dry, and keep the style as simple as possible and I promise you your hair will thank you later.

5. Use A Weekly Hair Mask

This tip is especially important if you color your hair, including bleaching. The ends of your hair get ripped and frayed overtime simply from brushing, and a good deep conditioning can help repair those fragile ends. It won’t make your hair greasy, I promise! In fact, it will help it shine like the top of the Empire State building on a sunny day. That being said, use a mask before shampooing if you have an oily scalp.

6. Try Taking Biotin

Calling all my acrylic nails loving, hair dying, acne-prone beautiful babes! Biotin has the potential to make your hair, skin, and nails healthier than they’d be without it. Not only will your hair grow longer, but it’ll also be much stronger. You can get Biotin supplements at any drugstore, and get ready to hear some serious compliments on how bomb you look!

7. Sleep On Satin

Using a satin pillowcase just to preserve your hair sounds so princess-y, and almost too luxurious for a 20-something-year-old. But there’s major proof out there that this tip will make your hair grow. A cotton pillowcase can irritate your hair in ways you can’t even imagine, so it makes sense that using something softer and more delicate will help your strands stay soft and healthy. You won’t regret investing in a silk or satin pillowcase.

8. Brush Your Hair, But Only As Much As It Needs

You’re probably thinking, well who in the world doesn’t brush their hair? The key is to brush it in a way that will distribute your natural oils without damaging the hair follicle. Most people tear through their hair without a second thought, but it’s much better to start from the bottom and work your way up. It takes a little longer to get rid of knots, but it’ll make your hair much less frizzy so it’s totally worth it.

9. Use A Microfiber Towel

Forget everything you learned about drying your hair. I don’t know who started the trend of bending over and twisting your hair into a turban, but that train stops here. To get rid of excess water, use a microfiber towel (it’s much more gentle than a regular one) and gently dab at your hair until it’s somewhat dry. This doesn’t create any friction, which will keep your hair healthy and strong. Bonus points if you tie it into a loose braid to create gorgeous, beachy waves.

10. Don’t Forget The Sunscreen

Sunscreen for your hair sounds ridiculous, but it’s just another way to keep your hair as healthy as possible. Just like you wouldn’t spend all day in the sun without protecting your skin, you should apply the same mentality to your hair. There’s plenty of hair products out there that have SPF in them, so spray it all over your scalp and gently rub it in to keep those damaging sun rays from burning your scalp and causing itchiness and flaking.

How do you keep your hair healthy? Are you going to use any of these tips to make your hair grow long? Let’s hear about it in the comments!
