You have gotten through the trials and tribulations of planning your trip, and now the only thing between you and a much needed vacation is a killer cross-country trip. Whether this is you first time or you’re an experienced flyer, air travel can be an arduous task. It may seem like there is not much you can accomplish while 30,000 feet in the air, but there is more to it than meets the eye! Here are 8 ways to turn your travel time into time well spent!
Managed to get all the way on the plane without having any plan for when you actually find your destination? The flight is a great, albeit late time to map out your vacation. Many airlines have complimentary travel books and brochures available for passengers to see what their destination has to offer. Bring along a pen and paper to jot down any and all activities you want to get done.
Yes, talking to new people can be an incredibly tedious and nerve-racking effort. Yes, the people sitting next to you might not be the most approachable of folks. Plus and awkward conversation will make the entirety of your cross-country flight uncomfortable af. But hey, you’re both going the same place, so you must have something in common, right?
If you begin to feel bored and tired, it may just be your body telling you it needs to move! When safe, walk a couple paces up and down the aisle to get your blood pumping. By the time you get back to your seat, you could be awake enough to make it through the rest of your flight.
Look, the airline already has your money. You might as well take advantage of all that they offer while on your cross-country flight. Enjoy an in-flight movie if available, check out any reading material, and ask the flight attendant if they offer blankets, extra pillows, or anything else you want that can make your experience better.
It’s important to keep your mind active while traveling for a long while, especially if you’re staying in a singular position. Pack some mind-building activities into your carry-on, such as word searches or crossword puzzles. Or better yet, bring along a two player game to give you a reason to talk to people.
If you’re lucky enough to get a window seat on your cross-country flight, make use of the great views as you cruise above the clouds. No better to daydream and reflect on life as you soar miles above people down below. Plus you definitely need to snap a pic from the window to let people know you’re on the move, it’s basically necessary.
Once again, the airline has all your money. The least you could do is eradicate their entire food supply. Eat what’s free, and at least think about buying the meals they offer because it might not be that bad. It probably is, but it’s at least worth a shot, right?
Assuming you have a smooth ride ahead of you, the best way to spend a cross-country flight is to sleep your way through it. Rest from hectic time spent getting on the plane, mentally prepare for your vacation, and avoid any issues with jet-lag. Plus, it’s hard to not enjoy the flight when you sleep through the whole thing.
