1. Do Quizzes Out Of The Magazines

This is a great way to learn more about your date! Bookstore dates don’t have to be all about the books. Grab a magazine and find the quizzes and go to town. Just make sure not to actually write in them! It can be really funny to do quizzes out of magazines like Cosmo or Seventeen, but try to find some other ones that are more neutral as well if you really want to learn more about your date. It’s extra fun if you ask each other the questions to save the reveal of what Jonas Brother you should be with or what color prom dress you should wear until the end!

2. Try To Guess The Plot Of YA Books

Want to have a little fun with your date? Go to the young adult section and take turns pulling a random book off the shelf and having the other try to guess the plot based on the title and cover alone. With YA books, anything’s possible. You’ll be surprised how often your plotline is spot on, and how strange some YA plots are! You can really play this in any section of the bookstore but the YA section is particularly fun because there are a lot of different genres represented in that section.

3. Re-Read Your Favorite Children’s Books

What’s a good bookstore date without a fun stroll down memory lane? Head to the children’s section and find your favorite books from when you were a kid (or just some that look good) and share them with your date! This is a great way to start a conversation with your date about their childhood, which is a great way to get to know someone. This can be particularly fun if you read them together, if you’re comfortable doing that. If you can find your favorite ones, it can be really nice to revisit those memories. Plus, you can see how they are around kids if there are any running around! How someone treats children says a lot about them, especially if they don’t particularly like kids.

4. Have A Conversation Where You Have To Use Book Titles

Pick a random aisle and walk down it. Force yourselves to work the titles of the books on the shelves into conversation, using one every time you talk. This is a great way to keep the conversation going if you find you’re running out of things to talk about or you’re getting a lot of awkward silences. This can be pretty challenging, but it can also be really hilarious and can take some of the pressure off the conversation itself. It’s hard to worry about saying the right thing when you’re trying to work a random set of words into your conversation!

5. Buy Each Other Your Favorite Book

Cliche as it may sound, this is one of the cutest ways you can end a date. Unless you got coffee to sip while you perused, a bookstore date is free. What better way to end the evening than to spend the fifteen dollars sending your date home with a book you love? If they really do take the time to read it, it’s sure to tell them a lot about you. The key to this is picking a book you actually found really influential and not a book you think will impress them. The goal here is to show them part of yourself, not to make them fall for someone you’re not. That doesn’t end well for characters in books, and chances are won’t end well for you!
