Happy 2017! Us lions have been back on campus for a little while now, but it is never too late to kickstart the spring semester the right way! Here are 10 ways to kickstart the spring semester at Loyola Marymount University and make it the best yet!
Using a planner is one of the best ways to keep yourself organized and aware of everything that is going on in your busy life! Color coding your planner to differentiate homework, tests, papers, meetings, work, and everything else additionally helps!
Spend time for yourself here and there and find something that will keep you relaxed even during stressful times. Maybe this is a trip to the beach or a quiet moment reading. Perhaps, you play an instrument or just want to listen to peaceful music on the bluff. Whatever it is that soothes you, keeping yourself relaxed during down moments will help keep your mind clear and your soul happy.
College is the perfect time to try new things and LMU has a ton of clubs and extra curricular activities! There are a ton of opportunities available. Plus, this is a great way to network and make new friends! Find out about more potential opportunities through Club Fests and through Facebook groups and pages!
One of the greatest things about LMU is it’s location! Los Angeles always has something fun to do. Whether you want to take a famous walk along Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, visit a beach, or hike at Griffith Park, there are a ton of things to do on and off campus. Plus, there are several options through the Lion’s Express, Big Blue Bus, ZipCar, Uber, Lyft, etcetera to find your way around town if you don’t have a car.
By setting goals for things you want to achieve, you can guide the semester around achieving those goals. For example, if you want an internship this summer, this is a great time to start figuring out what specifically you want to intern for, find the right people to talk to, apply, and figure out your plans. It’s never too early to plan or at least think about the future! (Plus, it is so rewarding when you achieve your goals!)
Clean, take care of your laundry, and if you can, get things you need to do out of the way. That way, you’re fresh and ready for the semester! It always gets a bit overwhelming at the start of each semester as you see all the assignments and upcoming projects, however, if you get some productive things out of the way early, the transition to a busy semester is much easier.
It is always wonderful seeing friends again after a break, so make it a point to meet up with your besties!
It is super easy to get into the habit of going to sleep really late and then sleeping in, leaving you rushing to class and tearfully passing a much needed coffee. We’ve all been there, but now is an ideal time to adjust to better sleep habits! Try to sleep earlier and wake up earlier to remain fresh, focused, and productive throughout the day.
One of my favorite things to do each semester at least the start and the end is to visit the beach with my friends. Having a fun tradition like this may feel like one more thing to do, but if you get the chance, it is a very fun and refreshing way to kick of a new semester.
This seems pretty self explanatory, but when you believe in yourself and go into classes with a smile and embrace being open to learning, you’ll find yourself in a positive mood that will keep you refreshed and motivated throughout the semester.
I hope that you have a great semester ahead!
