14 Ways To Incorporate 2020 Fashion Trends Into Your Outfits

2020 might technically be more than half way over… but since we haven’t been able to leave our houses for the better part of the year, that means we have a LOT of catching up to do. And by catching up I mean a lot of clothes that we could have shown off had it been a normal year.

Now that we are preparing to go (somewhat) back to school and work, the 2020 fashion trends are important once again! The following 14 trends are some that you can sport all year long. So whether you’re heading into the colder months or staying relaxed in the warmth, the following 14 are great ways to incorporate the best of the best of 2020 fashion trends into your own wardrobe.

1. Pants Tucked In… at the ankles, that is.

The first trend on the list, like the rest of 2020, was something I did not anticipate. Not that it’s never been done before (a.k.a. Boots over jeans, or sweatpants cinched at the ankles to fit under socks), but I had never seen the ‘Shoes Over Pants’ trend done in this way… with strappy heels and literally any bottom available! The trend started late last year and has only grown in popularity since then. Now, celebrities and commoners alike are sporting this trend as they strut through the streets. This is something many of us can do without having to purchase anything! Grab that strappy pair of heels and your jeans, sweats, trousers, you name it… and try out this trend for yourself!

2. Chunky Shoes & A Flowy Fit

The chunky shoes trend spans far and wide right now. From the classic Fila sneaker to Nike’s AF1, sneakers have become the new go-to shoe. My favorite rendition of the sneaker obsession? Sneakers with dresses and skirts. This fashion trend is such a great way to combine chic with comfortable. Who wants to walk around in heels anyway? Unless they’re tying around your pants, that is. But seriously, Bella Hadid could not have looked better in this sneaker-skirt-suit combo.

3. Boost It With A Bustiers

Once made with boning to stiffen the lady body, the bustier, and corset!, are fashions trend returning to the mainstream. This time, a lot more comfortable… and instead of hidden underneath to create some sort of curvy illusion, the pieces today are being worn on the outside of clothes. That way we can perfectly see the beautiful pieces. A bustier was typically used to, well… boost, and a corset to cinch. The functionality of both clothing accessories has changed a bit in 2020 fashion. Today, both are being worn in a variety of ways. A few brands have really taken this 2020 fashion trend to the next level.

4. Screaming Prints!

2020 is the year to go crazy with prints (we’re already going crazy in general, so we might as well add another layer to the mix!). Last year’s runways showed so many up and coming print pieces, there’s no knowing when it will stop! So whether you’re into the polka dot, the pinstripe, the Harper’s Bazaar titled “60s Wallpaper”, florals, animal print or anywhere in between, 2020 is the fashion season for you. From sheer tops to full-on printed suits, prints and patterns are flooding the streets this year… or at least they will be when we can walk on the streets again.

5. All Day Crochets

Crochet fits have come and gone over the last few years. We’ve seen a lot of them at Coachella and other warm weather festivals, but 2020 might just be one of crochet’s first intros back into the non-festival, ‘real’ world. From Target to 5th Ave, crochet is taking over.

6. Bright Is the New Black

Three words to describe 2020 fashion trends? Neon, neon, and neon! Not only are prints taking over, but highlighter-bright fabrics are shining through, too!  Perhaps it started with YSL’s Fall 2019 show- where the show came to a blazing finale as models walked out under the black lights to light up their neon fits. A year later, dresses, blazers, and every other clothing item in between has followed trend. Are bright neons the new black in 2020?

7. A Bra Counts, Right?

Can someone say quarantine? Wearing a bra as a top might be the closest possible thing to staying in PJs all day. But despite this trend’s complete comfort, it’s actually cute too. Pairing a bra with a blazer has been one of the chicest ways to wear a suit over the last few months. So while you might not wear it to back-to-the-office work, this trend is definitely one to try when working from home, running errands, or even for a night out.

8. Let’s Link!… Oversized Chains

Oversized chains have come in countless varieties this year. We had been seeing chain necklaces for a while now. But what about oversized sunglass chains, mask chains (gotta stay safe, everyone), and even oversized chain-strap bags. Because of the variety of oversized chains, the fashion trend is one you can adapt to whatever style you sport. The chain trend is the perfect way to bolden any outfit.

9. Leather for All Weathers

Who said leather is a fall or winter wardrobe item? This year, the leather trend is expanding its horizons to all seasons! Lighter color and lighter weight leathers were some of the most popular fabrics on the Spring 2020 Runways. Plus, the fashion trend didn’t limit itself to leather jackets and coats. Instead, leather skirt, pants, bags and more all adopted the all-weather leather concept to provide a much needed opportunity to expand out leather wardobe this year.

10. All The Shorts

Literally all of them. Hot pants, Bermuda shorts, pleather high waisted; with tights or heels or boots or no shoes at all. The shorts of 2020 are another fashion trend with surprising versatility.

11. Back to the Classics… PEARLS!

Pearls are back just in time to class-up our wardrobe. The classic pearl has returned in 2020 for many jewelry trends. Pearl necklaces, earrings and more made their name on the runways this year. A simple string of pearls or some simple pearl studs are a great way to pull together any look.

12. Bandana Wrap

Need a way to pull your hair out of your face, but look like a naked mole rat with a typical headband? (me too). Bandanas are a great, cute way to accessorize functionally. The bandana trend allows for any hair style to be worn underneath as the bandana wraps behind the ears and around the neck. Pull out some bangs in the front or style your hair in the back.

13. Sweats Aren’t Going Anywhere… You Neither?

If quarantine has done anything to the fashion industry it’s been to skyrocket the sales of sweats. In fact, many brands typically making (lots of) moolah right now on back-to-school are no where near their previous marks. So… they’re making sweatpants! Adding some sweats to my wardrobe is definitely not something I’m mad about. But even if you aren’t going anywhere, your sweats can actually make a pretty cute fit for any day.

14. Total Androgyny

Potentially the best possible upcoming fashion trend in the history of all fashion trends is androgyny. The ability to wear anything no matter who you are is something that should have been established a long, long, long, very long time ago. But finally the 2020s are establishing this fashion trend as one for the long haul. Some brands have come out with completely androgynous lines while others are shifting much of their design focus to a less ‘feminine vs. masculine’ ideal. Grab a pair of volume pants of trousers and combine them with whatever top you want!
