During this time of a global pandemic (that’s still scary to say), taking extravagant vacations this summer are pretty much out the window. That means, you need to have a “stay-cation”! While much easier on the wallet, a stay-cation can be difficult to make fun. Here are 5 ways to have the best “stay-cation” this summer!
This may not seem like a “fun” vacation activity, but trust me, taking some time reorganize and declutter is going to not only be satisfying but also make your stay-cation that much more relaxing. Take this time to go through closets, bedrooms, the refrigerator, cabinets, and any other storage places, and clear everything out. It make look like a mess at first, but looking at everything will allow you to easily gather what you do not need so that you can get rid of it. This will free up space for you to reorganize everything that remains to make it more accessible and clean. You can also purchase organizing tubs or drawers to better allocate space for your belongings. Overall, reorganizing your living space is going to make it a stress-free and relaxing environment. In fact, it is scientifically proven a clean and organized living area is going to make it a better environment to relieve stress. So make your first stay-cation activity to reorganize your “oasis”! It will make the entire stay-cation more relaxing.
When you think about, vacations are just drawn out self-care routines that take place away from home and usually in exotic locations. You can still do the same things you would do on a vacation but at home. You can read, watch a movie, or cook your favorite foods. The point is to do things that will bring you relaxation in your home. Take this time to amp up your normal self-care routine. Read a book in the bath surrounded by candles, make an ice cream sundae, or have a pizza delivered to snack on while having a movie marathon. These are all just ideas, but try to do the things that would bring you relaxation and bliss just like you were on a real vacation. Overall, self-care is a very broad term. This can be anything that you practice to care for your physical, mental, and spiritual health. Use this time to branch out and make up for the fact you are spending the summer in your house and not The Bahamas.
Redecorating is a great way to further upgrade your living space to make it more stay-cation friendly. Perhaps start with your bedroom. Put up some fairy lights, buy some candles, hang some art, and watch your space transform from boring and bland, to an oasis. Using this time to invest in your bedroom to make it the most comfortable it can be will pay off, even after the summer is over. Your bedroom is your area and making sure it is a space where you can escape and recharge is invaluable. That’s essentially what we take vacations for, is to get away from the world so that we can be reinvigorated when we return. Apply the same concept to any of your living spaces. Turn them into a space where you can escape and have the best stay-cation ever. This does not have to be costly, just make some changes that bring you comfort. Overall, redecorating is the most effective way of making a space a place to escape. Once again, investing in your space and perhaps spending a little money to make it better for you will pay off, whether it be during your stay-cation or beyond.
If your area is allowing it, perhaps consider inviting a few friends over to entertain. Half the fun of a vacation is getting to spend it with the people you love. Having friends over to watch a movie, have dinner, or just chill out is always a fun time. Maybe show off your newly decorated and reorganized bedroom/living room! Entertaining friends does not have to be drawn out and planned, having company around you, especially after several weeks of quarantine, is going to be crucial to having a fun stay-cation. If you can’t have friends over, maybe try and video call people that you know and cook dinner together, watch a movie together, or just chat. Overall, connecting with friends and entertaining yourself and others will be a great addition to your stay-cation and will make it feel more like a real vacation. These past few months have been rough, and you deserve some entertainment with friends! Just make sure that you are being safe and only socializing with people who have been taking proper precautions to avoid contracting COVID-19.
Finally, take this time during your stay-cation to explore hobbies you already have, or try to find new hobbies. If you enjoy writing, try to write your heart out during your stay-cation and perhaps get reinvigorated into your hobby. Whatever it may be, take this time to find a new passion or rediscover an existing one, it will pay off! This time of isolation will be well used if you find something that brings you joy and is productive. Hobbies don’t have to be something that is passionate and creative. If you enjoy cooking, try cooking your meals during your stay-cation. Whatever hobby you have, make the most of it and strive to become better at it during your stay-cation. Overall, however you want to spend your stay-cation, enjoying a hobby at home is going to make it enjoyable. Exploring hobbies/passions are also great for improving mental health and relaxation, something vital to a good stay-cation. Don’t be afraid to branch out and try new things. You can share these experiences with friends or keep them to yourself. Bottom line, finding a hobby or passion is going to serve you well past the summer and provide hours of entertainment and fulfillment.
