10 Ways To Have A Relaxing Staycation
As much fun as vacations can be, staycations can be much needed as a break from work stress and will save you more money than a normal vacation. Vacations can be relaxing; but the planning, financials, and even the vacation itself can be stressful. A staycation can be the perfect solution for relaxing away from day to day life.
1. Sleep In
There is nothing more satisfying then not having to set an alarm for the next morning. Sleeping in will be the best way to start your staycation, you can catch up on sleep from the previous weeks stress. This will start your week refreshed and give you more energy for anything else you may have planned for the week. I love waking up not to an alarm and seeing that when I woke up would be when work typically starts. Sleep is essential to health and to truly be able to relax and refresh you’ll need to get some much needed sleep.
2. Read A Book
I find that reading is such a relaxing thing to do, and it’s a more stimulating activity than watching TV, you’re still using your mind but you can cozy up with a blanket a book and a cup of coffee for a peaceful day. There’s so many books out there we all want to read but never seem to have time, a staycation is the perfect opportunity to catch up on all of those. Reading is so relaxing and the best books will take you to a different world, making you forget about anything that stresses you out.
3. Get A Massage
The first time I ever got a massage I literally had the most euphoric experience. The atmosphere is relaxing for both body and mind, and getting all the knots worked out will relieve so much tension. Using your staycation to really let yourself experience things you typically don’t get too on a weekly basis. It will make your staycation feel like a real vacation and you’ll love how relaxed you feel for the rest of the week.
4. Binge Your Favorite Show
We all have shows that we are huge fans of and with juggling so many responsibilities it can be hard to just make time for simple pleasures. Binging your favorite show will give you the perfect time to just forget about everything and really just relax. This is a great option for those who just really want to truly disconnect and enjoy their time. Watching your favorite show is proven to help with both anxiety and depression so if you are looking for a good, relaxing pick me up for your staycation, this is the perfect solution.
5. Clean And Organize
I always feel so much better after I clean, even if its just putting clothes away, you feel so much more at peace. Clutter makes you anxious and feel out of control, but if you spend your staycation organizing and cleaning, you’ll feel so much better when you have to return to work. Even though cleaning can be a lot of work, I find that I typically enjoy it and even just the act of cleaning puts me at ease. Take the time to reorganize your closets or deep clean your bathroom and kitchen. Whatever you do, you’ll be glad you spent your week doing something productive and you’ll feel so much better after you do it.
6. Do Nothing
There are times where doing literally nothing is so refreshing. I love days where you have no obligations, not time line, and no one to answer too. These days are rare, and on this days I like to make the best of them. It’s nice to just hang out at your house and be lazy and do nothing. Watching a movie you’ve never seen, writing in a journal, catching up on a book, take a nap. These days are rare but a staycation is the perfect time to do this.
7. Be A Tourist In Your Own City
If you’re someone who really likes more of an adventure and can’t just sit still, being a tourist in your own city is a great solution. Focus on the relaxing aspects of vacation, book a brunch at the highest rated restaurant in the city, or schedule an appointment to get your nails done at the way too expensive salon downtown. Use this time to explore what is around you that you may take for granted living there. Meet up with some friends or enjoy some me time, but use this staycation to indulge in what your city has to offer.
8. Go Shopping
Shopping can be stressful for some people, but if you’re like me, its’s one of my favorite things to do and I find it to be relaxing. When I’m on vacation I’m usually more carefree when it comes to shopping, so use this staycation to do the same. Get that vanity you’ve been wanting for years, or the dress you love but isn’t on sale. A little retail therapy will give you a fun day to forget about everything else and just enjoy your time and relax.
9. Get Ahead
You may have a research paper due in a few months that requires you to read a two books, or a huge presentation at work next month. You can use this time to get ahead of those so that when the time comes you won’t be so stressed about it all. You’ll be glad you used your extra time to get ahead. You don’t have to devote your entire staycation to this but getting started on reading that book will make you feel less stressed later. It will also put you at ease in the moment, the anxiety of everything that’s going to happen won’t stress you out knowing that you have it under control.
10. Be Physical
Now, I can’t say I am ever one to really do this much myself but this will actually make you feel better in the long run. Whether it’s taking a hike, or a yoga class you’ll feel better using your body and you’ll actually feel more relaxed. Although we all love our lazy days and curling up in bed with a blanket and our favorite shows; getting up and taking a walk can be just as peaceful as staying in. You’ll relax better after knowing that you weren’t just sitting around all day. Use this time to listen to your favorite musician or call friend and catch up. You’ll feel great after you get a little physical activity in.
