Sleep is the most important part of…well, life. It sets the tone for your day and your mood. Without enough sleep you’ll feel more tired throughout your day, and if you’re tired while at work you won’t be able to do your job, your boss may fire you, no job means no money and no money means you can’t pay your rent, your bill, etc. It may sound extreme but that one simple thing starts a chain reaction. So to avoid being broke here are 5 Ways To Get The Best Sleep Of Your Life!
Getting the best sleep you can starts with setting up asleep schedule. This can be tough if you’re in college, especially if you’re staying up to finish assignments, study or got out with friends but sticking to your sleep schedule is going to ensure that you get the necessary amount of sleep in order to be a functional human being the next day.
I know it sounds a bit childish to set a bedtime for yourself but it will help you stay on task throughout your day. You can plan your day around it that way you make sure to get all of the things you need to do before going to bed, you’ll have a productive day and won’t have to go to bed hating yourself for doing nothing all day. It is recommended that you get between 7-8 hours of sleep and you can do so by setting up “Bedtime” on your phone. It comes with your iPhone and the best part about it is that you’re not woken up to any loud alarm which can scare people out of sleep and instead wakes you up with calm, slow music that rises in volume gradually.
Getting the best sleep is different for everyone so you can create an environment that best suits you. Whether it’s dimmed lighting or a cold environment do it, you’ll be glad you did. Avoid falling asleep while watching t.v. Or if that’s how you prefer to fall asleep then set a timer on your t.v so it automatically turns off after a certain amount of time. Also, bedtime an enjoyable activity by always taking a bath or reading your favorite book can help you feel excited about going to sleep, since it’s your time to unwind.
To get the best sleep possible avoid using your phone at least an hour before bedtime, instead try journaling about your day or anything to help you relax and get into that peaceful mindset. Also, if you see something potentially upsetting it could your mood and make it harder to fall asleep.
It’s never a good idea to eat a big meal right before bed, but if you need to eat try a light, whole wheat pasta dish with fresh vegetables, diced chicken breast, tomato sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan. According to Health.com, this meal contains a combination of protein and tryptophan, “an amino acid that converts to sleep- promoting serotonin in the body.” You can also never go wrong with milk and cookies!
Lastly, one way to get the best sleep of your life would be to avoid naps during the day. While you may be in need of it, it throws off your internal clock and can make it difficult for you to fall asleep later on.
