Get ready, the next four years of college are going to be a stressful nightmare. Papers, midterms, group projects, and finals are all in your future. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll have a lot of fun too, but it is a lot of work. Don’t make your health something you need to worry about on top of it all. Stay healthy so that you have the strength to stay up all night for that cram session and ace the test in the morning. Here are five to get in shape for college this year.
Running is the best way to get in shape. It is good for your heart, back, core, legs, and arms! Not to mention it is also very therapeutic and can help you manage stress. Even if you only run for thirty minutes a day you will start to see your body and mind change. This doesn’t mean you have to suddenly be a marathon runner, but even if you just make it a point to run to one of your classes or star on a treadmill you will spend the rest of the day feeling amazing. So strap into your runners, pop in your favorite tunes and start running, you’ll thank me later.
If you’re really looking to get in shape and you have some time to spare sign up for a boot camp. These classes are designed to get you moving and keep you healthy. This can also be an easy way to meet people who are in the same position as you, literally. So if you moved here for school and you’re looking to make friends who are a good influence on you I would try one of these classes out at your local recreational center. Or see if your college provides these classes at the gym.
Recreational sports are a fun way to get in shape and spend an afternoon. These teams can often look intimidating but they are designed for people like you! When you participate in a team sport you get to make friends, get in shape and use your competitive edge. If you’re not feeling like you’re ready to join a full team yet, then get some friends and play some soccer in the park. It’s a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon, while also getting your cardio in.
College is stressful, you’re going have to find a healthy way to manage that stress so that it doesn’t control your life. Getting into yoga is a great way to do this. Practicing yoga for fifteen minutes a day can relax your body and mind. Breath in and breath out. Not to mention this is also a great way to get in shape when you’re body is calm it doesn’t hold onto unneeded weight. Join a class, download an app or just practice it in your dorm room every morning, you will feel and look great!
An easy hole for college students to fall into is only eating junk food. Don’t do this, yes it is convenient and yes it is cheap, but it’s not worth it. When you give your body junk it’ll act like a piece of junk. Don’t spend your nights reading a textbook while sucking down an energy drink, you’ll spend the next day tired and you won’t remember anything that you read. If you don’t have time to exercise then at least try to eat right. Stay away from salt, sugars and excessive amounts of caffeine, these items are food traps that ruin your body.
