Autumn seems to come and go quicker every year, and with it takes the fall weather just out of reach. But before the cold settles in and the Christmas songs start playing nonstop, check out this list of ways you can soak in the autumn breeze while it’s here.
A surprisingly more fun experience than it seems, apple picking is a great way to kick off the season. Your local orchard has probably just opened up, and the fruit is definitely fresh for the picking. Visit the farm and spend a good part of the afternoon filling your baskets and breathing in the fresh autumn air.
It’s time to put away the sundress and layer on the flannel. The beginning of fall weather also marks the beginning of sweater weather, so go out and get yourself a nice knitted pullover for the chilly nights.
One of the best aspects of the fall weather is the spectacular changing of colors. The trees become an ocean of reds, oranges, and yellows, and the shedding leaves start to fall with the autumn wind. Take an hour out of your day to go to your local forest trail, and take it all in before it’s gone for another year.
It might not be Halloween yet, but pumpkin carving is still fun any day, right? Places usually start selling pumpkins in August/September, so there’s nothing stopping you from gathering some friends for a great time. Don’t forget to use the filling for homemade pumpkin pie!
Your fall would not be complete without enjoying the great outdoors! Whether you find yourself in the middle of nowhere or right in your own backyard, camping is a great way to get away and enjoy some time reconnecting with nature. Don’t forget to make a checklist, you wouldn’t want to be out in the woods with no supplies.
From apple pies to pumpkin spice flavored…everything, the fall weather also brings with it the return of your favorite fall flavors. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of the bountiful harvest and try something new.
Okay, this one may seem like a chore, but raking leaves is a great way to take in the fall weather and clean up your yard. If you’re feeling extra nice, ask your neighbors if you can rake their lawns if they’re unable to do it themselves. Plus, at the end, you can feel like a kid again and jump into your massive pile of leaves!
Test your sense of direction and try to escape a massive corn maze. There’s probably a field near you with a great maze open for the fall season. Just try to avoid being in one when it gets dark, it’s not a great place to spend your night.
If you’ve never baked a pie or don’t know how, the fall is a great time to start. Apples, pumpkins, and other fruits for pies are in season, and hot pie is perfect for chilly autumn nights. You can even try baking with your friends and make a day of it!
Winter is coming, and as much as you should enjoy the fall weather, you should prepare before it gets too cold to go outside. Pick up a new coat, do some early holiday shopping, and start chopping wood for the fireplace. Whatever you need to prepare for winter, do it while you still can enjoy the weather.
