It’s that time of year again. Spring is upon us and along with all the allergies, rain, and warmer weather, comes this strange desire to clean. Spring cleaning can often feel like a much needed reset after a long winter. While once it’s done, the refresh can feel great, the getting there is terrifying and stressful. You’re faced with a lot that needs to be done. Well, here are 7 ways to conquer spring cleaning, so you can feel like an organized champ.
Before you break out the trash bags and various cleaning supplies, figure out exactly what all needs to be done. Do you need to redo the bedroom? Clean out the closet? Deep clean the bathroom? Whatever it is, write it all down. Break down each area, each task. The result can appear overwhelming, but once you start checking off those boxes, you’ll feel much better. Besides, getting detailed about it means you won’t miss a step.
Once you have your list, don’t overwhelm yourself by starting and stopping all of them. Sure, you got the bed made, but the floor is still a mess. And while your hanging clothes are sorted, have you even looked at the folded? Completing one project at a time helps you feel like you’re getting stuff done and that sense of completion will drive you to keep going so you can conquer spring cleaning.
I know, I know. This can be so hard to do. That coconut bra you wore to Kappa Sig’s luau last semester was super cute, but will you ever wear it again? Doubtful. Toss that thing and keep going. I’m sure there’s more that could go, too. After all, all this new free space means you have room to buy more stuff, right?
Don’t tell yourself you’re going to get the bedroom and bathroom done in one day. You won’t be able to or you’ll just overwhelm yourself trying. Know what you’re capable of and then set goals based on that so you can conquer spring cleaning without going crazy.
It’s like going to the gym. There’s no good time to go, you just have to go. The same goes for cleaning. You’re never going to want to start cleaning, but you just have to get up and do it. Start by setting aside a few hours in the morning before class or an hour after dinner. Make the time and before you know it, you’ll be done.
It can be so hard to find the right motivation to conquer spring cleaning. It’s not all that fun, really. But going through your Spotify and creating a playlist full of your favorites is one way to find that motivation to not only get you started, but also keep you going.
Yes, spring cleaning is hard! It’s the last thing you want to do after a long day of doing you, but conquering it is the best feeling in the world. If you’re going to get it all done, you’ve got to stay positive. If you dread doing it and let all of those negative thoughts fill your head, this is not going to be easy for you. But if you force yourself to stay positive, you’ll be able to do whatever it takes to conquer spring cleaning.
