Whether you are looking to boost your social media following for your business or just for yourself personally, there are lots of ways to do so. You should know that unless you go viral, this is not something that is likely to happen overnight. Boosting your social media following can be a slow process, but if you are consistent and persistent, you will slowly start to see those numbers rising and it will become easier the bigger your following becomes.
Whether we’re talking about Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, there are certain things that will always get you noticed and will always help to boost your numbers. With that in mind, we have a few tips to help you get started – here are five simple things that you can do to help boost your social media following!
Being sociable is key to being popular on social media just as it would be in real day-to-day life – this is social media after all! No matter what platform it is that you are using, find some accounts that you have something in common with and get chatting. For example, if you are a fashion Instagram account, find some similar fashion accounts with a similar following and get chatting to them. Alternatively, if you are looking to expand your network on LinkedIn, find some people in the area and connect with and get chatting to them. Don’t be afraid to just drop someone a message out of the blue, it isn’t as weird as you think and you have no idea where it could lead!
Networking on social media is one of the biggest keys to success on there, just as it would be if you were going to a work event or a party – getting to know people can take you to all sorts of places. So go say hi!
Being relatable is crucial, nobody will be interested in what you’re putting out into the world if it isn’t relatable. Don’t get me wrong, being different is great – in fact it’ll make you stand out from the crowd and is more likely to get you popular on social media. This being said, whatever it is that you’re posting still really needs to be relatable for people to want to follow you, befriend you, or connect with you etc. Share memes, jokes, discuss celebrities and topics that everyone loves. At the end of the day, people will only want to keep up to date with your content if it is something that interests them, and to be interesting it has to be relatable.
Don’t underestimate the importance of simply being kind and easy to talk to on social media. Whether you are looking to be some sort of role model, a support network, or even just to advertise, no matter what it is, people aren’t likely to want to follow you or engage with you if you don’t come across as a friendly and approachable person. Be natural in your posts, don’t try to come across as to formal, include some emojis and be positive and upbeat. People will be more likely to like, retweet, share etc, your content if you appear to be nice and approachable.
Engagement is a big part of any sort of online success, asking questions and offering polls, or competitions etc, encourages engagement. If you are really looking to boost your following fast, competitions where the condition is following you can make for a quick way to increase your numbers. Alternatively, it might take longer but the followers might be more likely to stick around, try posting a daily poll or asking your followers interesting questions – encouraging them to engage with you will get your content shared and spread around the internet and then new people will likely come across you and your account. Anything that encourages positive engagement is always a good idea.
Don’t forget, it also works the other way! Go and engage in other people’s competitions, polls and questions, that way more people are seeing you on the internet too.
It probably goes without saying that when it comes to the likes of Instagram and YouTube, posting really good quality pictures and videos is key. At the end of the day, people are much more likely to enjoy your content if it is high quality. Perhaps investing in a phone with a good camera or even forking out for a good camera itself could be a good idea – if you are hoping to make social media your business, the phone or camera might just pay for itself if you play your cards right!
In addition, you also really shouldn’t underestimate the importance of really good spelling and grammar. Not only is it important to write well so that people can actually understand your content, but also, if you are posting on behalf of a company or trying to start one up yourself, you will not come across as very professional if you don’t know the difference between ‘to’, ‘two’ and ‘too’, or can’t use an apostrophe correctly, for example. Consider doing some research on Google or even checking out some online classes to up your spelling and grammar game – you’d be surprised how much of a difference it could make!
