10 Vintage Clothing Items We Love

If you love vintage clothing items but aren’t sure where to begin this list is for you. Shopping for the perfect recycled piece can be daunting, especially if you’ve never thrifted before or are wary of wearing someone else’s clothes. Although all of these items are available for purchase new there are plenty of opportunities to buy these used and help promote sustainable fashion.

1. Bell Bottoms

In the modern day world skinny jeans buying a pair of bell bottoms can be intimidating. To begin, they aren’t bootcut jeans. Bell bottoms will hit you differently and when fitted properly they will flatter any body type. The scariest part of these jeans are that if bought wrong they can make you look like you’re drowning. Make sure when you buy your first pair of bell bottoms make sure you try them on. If you’re on the shorter side be sure to try them on.

2. Dr. Martens

This classic shoe brand was founded in the 1940s, took off by the Counter-Culture of punks in the 1960s and are still going strong. These boots will protect you from the elements, they’re easy to walk in (once you break them in) and they’ll go with nearly everything in your closet. You can wear these to dress down any dress and they will go great with any casual outfit.

3. Slip Dress

Slip dresses will help you channel your inner Courtney Love, or really any amazing rock legend. A slip dress may be scary to wear because they can come off as something you should only wear in the bedroom but the right accessories and dress will look amazing. Unlike modern day lingerie as outer wear slip dresses typically aren’t overly frilly, lacy or have a bunch of padding. Most of them are a dress that are made of silk or silk-like material. Look for these because these will look the best. Pair them with your new Dr. Martens, a black moto jacket and you’re going to blow everyone’s mind.

4. Bustier

Take a page out of Madonna’s or Selena’s book and invest in a nice bustier. These will not only make you break necks they will also support whatever you’re working with and also cover you, depending on the bustier of course. Pair them with a pair of high waisted denim jeans and a cropped jacket and you’ll have the perfect outfit.

5. Trousers

Trousers, especially ankle cut trousers, are making a big come back. These aren’t just meant for work, and honestly they look better than most business clothes you probably own. You can of course wear these into the office if you wear a sweater or a cami with an open sweater. Or you can tuck in a band-t or a crop top for an everyday outfit. The ones below will make it look like you just stepped out of Mad Men.

Of course you can’t have a vintage clothing list without vintage band t-shirts. These can be hard to come by but if you’re willing to look, and pay a pretty penny, you will be able to get your hands on a mighty fine shirt.
