5 Vegetables That You Should Grow In Your Garden

Growing vegetables in your garden is a great hobby and is relatively easy. The best part about raising vegetable plants in your backyard is that you know get to watch them grow and bloom before your eyes. When you buy vegetables from a store, there is no telling how much pesticide they’ve endured, but when you grow them yourself, you know that they are 100 percent organic. If you are interested in growing your own vegetables, then you should consider these five. 

1. Sweetie Tomato

Tomatoes are the most common vegetable to be grown in gardens; they are fairly easy to grow and manage. Sweetie tomato seeds should be planted in early spring or summer and they take 65-70 days to harvest. In order to grow sweetie tomatoes, you will need to start indoors and buy a seed starting kit, which can be found in just about any garden store. You will need to follow the instructions on the seed starting kit, in order to get results.

The seedlings should emerge is about 7-10 days and once emerged, they should be moved outside to a sheltered area for a week. After they have been exposed to the outdoors for a week, then you may begin the transplanting process. The sweetie tomato plant will need at least six hours of sunlight; water weekly and do not overwater. 

2. Carrots

Carrot plants are surprisingly not that complicated to grow. Carrots seeds should be planted in early spring or late summer and they take 65-70 days to harvest. To grow carrots, you will need to sow the seeds into thin rows that are 12 inches apart.

It is recommended that you do not plant them into the ground, as it could result in crooked roots. The carrot plant needs at least six hours of sunlight; water but do not overwater. 

3. Sweet Pepper

Sweet pepper seeds should be planted in late spring and early summer and take 70 days to harvest. To grow sweet peppers, you will need to start indoors with a seed starting kit. Your sweet pepper plant will remain indoors for about eight weeks, before transplanting the sweet peppers outside. Seedlings should emerge within 10-21 days. Before you transition the sweet pepper plants outdoors, you will need to move them into a sheltered area outside for a week, so that they can adjust to the change. 

4. Lettuce

There is nothing better than a salad that is made with fresh lettuce. Lettuce seeds should be planted in early spring or late summer and take 45-50 days to harvest. If you plant the seeds in late summer, then your first crop will occur in the fall.

5. Radish

Radishes are a very easy vegetable to grow, so add this vegetable to your garden. Radish seeds should be planted in early spring or late summer and take 22 to harvest. If you are wanting a fall crop, then you should plant the seeds in late summer.

To grow radishes, you will need to sow the seeds into thin rows that are roughly six inches apart; cover with a 1/2 inch of soil. The seedlings should emerge within 4-6 days. Make sure that you keep the soil moist.
