8 Useful Things You Can Find At The Dollar Store
The dollar store might not be your go-to when it comes to houseware, cosmetics, or food, but it can actually be a great option if you’re looking to save money. You just have to choose wisely. Here are 8 useful things you can find at the dollar store. Almost every department is covered on this list to help you maximize your Dollarama trip!
1. Hand Sanitizer
An important aspect of your everyday life, especially during flu season, hand sanitizer is essential. The dollar store sells travel sized packs for a good price so you can stock up on multiple units. They also carry different brands, but when it comes to hand sanitizer the brand doesn’t matter all that much. I go for Purrel because it’s the most well known.
2. Paperclips
Paperclips are an incredibly useful stationary item. While the dollar store often sells many stationery items, the paperclips, push-pins, paperweights, and binder clips are the least problematic and carry the most longevity. I wouldn’t go for pens or notebooks in the stationary section unless you can judge their quality just by looking at them, which is often not the case.
3. Mugs and Glasses
A good mug doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Instead of Homesense or Urban Outfitters, try the dollar store for your at home beverage needs. They usually have quite a wide variety and they are usually around two dollars for a nice looking addition to your kitchen space or coffee table. Recently, the dollar store has been making mugs and glasses with a contemporary flair, so you’re bound to find something that suits your modern tastes.
4. Reusable Containers
The dollar store has a wide selection of plastic dishes and containers. These are always useful for many types of occasion such as transporting food, storing knick-knacks, and whatever else you can think of! The dollar store is a great place to get creative and make the most out of what you can get on a budget. Most of their products are now BPA free and are pretty good quality.
5. Greeting Cards
Hallmark cards are beautiful, but they’re much more expensive than your average dollar store greeting card. Instead of choosing a card based on quality or looks, try going to the dollar store to look for cards for people that are less special to you than your loved ones. With a wide range of options, you’re sure to find the card that’s right for that special occasion.
6. Seasonal or Room Decor
The dollar store carries all kind of goods to help you decorate for any holiday. They’re always way ahead of the game when it comes to stocking up for the upcoming season, so get there early and snag the best items. They have great birthday decor as well! As for room decor, go for things like fairy lights and polaroid clips. Maybe a cute hang-up calender or a fake plant could work? Maybe some glow in the dark stickers to embellish your walls?
7. Reading Glasses
Reading glasses are a steal and sometimes sell for under a dollar. If you don’t need a prescription and you only need glasses to read, you might as well snag these at the dollar store and get the bang for your buck. They have a lot of options and you can always check in with your doctor if you’re unsure.
8. Nail Polish
The last time I went to the dollar store, I was really surprised at the amount of nail polish they have. The one I visit in Parkdale, Toronto, mainly carries Sally Hansen, and they last for a while! They’re durable and don’t look cheap. There are a lot of different styles and colours so you’re in luck if you’re looking to self-manicure on a budget.
