Many people are passionate about films and aren’t afraid to voice popular and Unpopular Movie Opinions online or in person. Despite facing the risk of backlash for expressing Unpopular Movie Opinions, people will defend their stances to the ends of the earth even if they’re wrong or mistaken.
Some of the Unpopular Movie Opinions listed here are ones expressed by people either on BuzzFeed or on Reddit. In addition, some of the other Unpopular Movie Opinions featured in this article are ones that famous actors and directors or critics expressed in interviews and/or reviews.
Now, with all of that being said, let’s take a look below and check out 10 Unpopular Movie Opinions That You’ll Strongly Agree or Disagree with:
“Sure, Regina was no hero, but she was intended to be a typical high school mean girl who eventually grows out of that phase. Cady manipulated her and the Plastics throughout the whole movie.”

Several acclaimed Directors back the unpopular opinion that the Marvel Movies, Superhero films produced by Marvel Studios, aren’t cinema. One of those directors includes Oscar-Winning Director Martin Scorsese, who stated in a 2019 interview with Empire Magazine, “I don’t see [the Marvel Movies]. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
“Its got abysmally bad writing and characters to me. The thing is people are like “well just turn off your brain and watch the robots fight giant monsters” and I would absolutely love to do it but the movie is like 90 percent sh**y dialogue and story. They had those awesome robots from other countries with interesting weaponry and styles and they died instantly in the first f***ing battle. Don’t even get me started on the sequel which is pretty much universally disliked but people still talk about the first one like its this awesome giant mech movie but the giant mechs are like 5% of the screen time I feel like.”

“There was no way that he and Rose would have been endgame. Their relationship was solely founded on the thrill and adrenaline of their circumstances (both before sinking and during the sinking of the ship). Had they both survived, they wouldn’t have stayed together anyway.”

“About 3 movies into the series, you begin to realize that it’s the exact same movie every time, just with the scenario changed.”

“I found the movie to be extremely underwhelming and a mediocre movie at best. I’m 100% for more strong female leads (I’m a woman myself and I definitely think mainstream media needs to do a better job showing the diversity of women with strength and power and Wonder Woman was a good baby step in the right direction), but I felt like Wonder Woman barely scraped the surface when it comes to displaying strength— physically (eg realistic muscle mass) and emotionally (boring plot, superficial motivations).”

“Wait, critics liked that movie? It was a huge cringefest. It was exactly what you would think of if Seth Rogen and his buddies got high and decided to make fun of Toy Story. It did nothing original except put swearing and smoking weed into the kind of story that a kids movie would have. Maybe critics are secretly just edgelord teenagers who would think that kind of dumb sh** is funny.”

“I absolutely abhor “The Greatest Showman” I think it’s obnoxious, heavy handed, and an unoriginal tool used to pander to a modern audience that craves a feeling of unique and special individuality. I remember telling my friends how much I hated it after I saw it and my friend’s husband got really upset with me and then proceeded to write a Facebook post about how I was “simply out of touch” because I didn’t like the movie. Wild. So I stopped expressing my opinion of that movie haha.”

Of all the Unpopular Movie Opinions included in this article, this is the one I strongly disagree with and raise my eyebrows at. Internet fans have gone after The Boy Who Lived with many “evidence-based” cases. Websites such as BuzzFeed have whole articles published as to why Harry Potter was the worst character in the series.
From that particular article (click here to read it for yourself), the most notable claim is this one: “Remember when he got help for LITERALLY EVERY TASK during the Triwizard Tournament? Yeah, we know he didn’t choose to be entered, but he could have at least TRIED. Harry is the kid in your class who shows up two minutes before class starts and expects you to let him copy your homework. NO, BRO. DO IT YOURSELF. Just a little effort, Harry. That’s all we ask.”
The second of the two Unpopular Movie Opinions expressed by famous directors to be featured in this article, this one was made headlines thanks to Oscar-Winning Director Steven Spielberg! In fact, the two-time Best Director Winner even presented a case to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to block films that are primarily distributed online from being edible to be nominated/win Oscars.
Spielberg stated in an interview with ITV News (See below): “Once you commit to a television format, you’re a TV movie. You certainly — if it’s a good show — deserve an Emmy, but not an Oscar.”
