The University of Alabama Huntsville is a pretty unique university and a great community to be a part of. There are a lot of elements that define UAH and all the students who go there. Here are 20 signs that’ll say for sure if you’re a UAH student!
The University of Alabama Huntsville has a campus-wide “high-five Friday” where you just go around giving random people high fives, and it’s totally acceptable. It’s a fun little tradition that often helps bring a smile to people’s faces.
2017 R.I.P. When it was a nice day, you might not have noticed anything, but every time it rained, the phallic symbol shone brightly on the walkway leading to CV. EVERYONE knew about it and was oddly impressed. Somehow they were able to recently get rid of it, and we’re all still in mourning.
There’s been so much construction going on in the past few years that it almost doesn’t even faze you anymore… almost.
UAH is the school for engineers. So much so that it’s almost weird when someone discovers a non-engineering student.
As the school’s colors, your wardrobe has probably started including more and more royal blue. Charger pride!
And you’ve seen (and laughed at) the hilarious shirts in the bookstore that read “UAH Football- Still Undefeated!”
In place of a football team, the University of Alabama Huntsville has a hockey team, and we’re all there for it!
Parking is remarkably bad at UAH, and it has gotten even worse with recent parking zone enforcement. Not a day goes by where you don’t hear someone complain about it.
They give out free T-shirts for any and every event they can. You can’t have enough, so you go to all the events (even if you just get the shirt and leave).
There are certain spots at the University of Alabama Huntsville that are usually pretty empty if you just need somewhere to be alone for a few minutes. Even though a lot of people know about them, they’re all still surprisingly desolate when you need them to be.
The hub of all student life. You can get Dunkin’ and chill there as long as you want.
ACE provides students with free movies every week. What’s better than free movies (and the free popcorn that comes with them at the Union Theater)?
As a tradition event during UAH’s homecoming, Charger Stomp is one of the most exciting events of the week that you will never miss.
Week of Welcome is full of events during the first week of classes, normally to help new students get acclimated to UAH’s environment. The events are really for everyone, and everyone goes! It’s a great way to meet new people outside of the classroom for new students and returning students alike!
Taco Bell is literally a two-minute drive off of campus, so the drive thru is normally chock full of UAH students grabbing a quick bite.
Franz is notorious for its laughable amount of fire drills. Outsiders might find it a little disconcerting how many alarms they have, but the rest of us understand that the honors students just can’t microwave things properly for some reason.
It’s a pretty small campus, so you can walk to most of your classes. It’s a lot easier than having to try and find parking before every class!
Comparably to larger campuses, UAH has a pretty small student body population. It’s easier to get to know a lot of people this way, and it provides a little better sense of community.
For the first two weeks, the caf is packed so full that you can’t even find a seat. I made the mistake of going at peak lunch hour my first day of classes, and I never made that mistake again. Once everyone gets into a routine and things calm down, it’s a little safer to go there. Thankfully, they’re doing renovations this summer so there should be more sitting room!
Every year for the past few years has been the “biggest incoming class” UAH has seen because the campus is growing pretty quickly and acceptance numbers are rising. So, you were probably once a part of that title only to have it taken out from under you by the next class.
