5 Unique Bars In Denver to Sip on Margaritas

With patio season under way, sipping on margaritas in the sunshine is just the thing to make the most of this summer. These 5 unique bars offer deliciously boozy margaritas along with tasty street tacos at friendly prices.

1. Blue Bonnet Restaurant

Blue Bonnet is located on South Broadway and home to tasty margaritas frozen and on the rocks. The flavored margarita list is filled with unique and tasty variations like orange habanero, strawberry basil, cucumber jalapeno, coconut and ginger Lime. The best time to catch Blue Bonnet is during happy hour when the margaritas are $3.50, and the street tacos are $3 each. The street tacos are a perfect pair to soak up those extra boozy margaritas. They tacos come in pork belly, shrimp, carne asada, pollo adobado and veggie. To get the best out of Blue Bonnet I would recommend stopping by between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. For a light and fresh combination, pair a veggie taco with a coconut margarita and for a more hearty and spicy combination, pair a carne asada taco with the orange habanero margarita.

2. Machete

Machete is one of the most famous taquerias in Denver, located across from Union Station in Downtown Denver. This unique bar has some very interesting yet tasty margarita concoctions. Some of the most popular margaritas offered are the Mexican Jury Duty and the Spicy Rico. The Mexican Jury Duty is made with Espadin Mezcal, orange juice, cashew milk, agave and a chile rim. It has quite a unique flavor but definitely worth a try! The Spicy Rico margarita is definitely spicy. It is made with Herradura Silver tequila, Hot Mess infusion, fresh jalapenos, cilantro and lime all muddled and shaken for the perfect blend. I would recommend some extra tortillas at your table to extinguish the heat from this margarita.

3. Dos Santos

This taqueria serves up some of the tastiest tacos in Denver. Dos Santos’ margaritas are sometimes over shadowed by the tacos but it is time they get some recognition. Those ‘ritas pack quite the punch. Some notable margaritas offered here are the Hibiscus Margarita and the Mezcalina. The Hibiscus Marg is made with Arette Blanco tequila, fresh hibiscus, lime, agave, and rimmed with Tajin. This margarita is sweet and salty, perfect for the summer weather. The Mezcalina is made with mezcal, orange juice, elder flower and hibiscus. The elder flower is such a unique flavor that adds so much sweetness and crispness to the margarita.

4. Rio Grande

The Rio Grande restaurant has traditional margarita flavors like mango and strawberry but the location and atmosphere help what make this margarita spot unique. This Mexican restaurant is located on 16thSt. and Blake St. just a few blocks from Coors Field. This bar/ restaurant offers a fun vibe with Top 40 hits blaring and a quaint outdoor patio with a gorgeous view of Downtown Denver. The margaritas are still packed with a healthy serving of tequila whether it is frozen or on the rocks. Sometimes if you order a frozen margarita some of the alcohol seems to dissolve with the ice, not at Rio Grande. Those frozen margs will still get you tipsy!
