Graduation is right around the corner for the seniors at Ohio University, and as they get ready to head out to the next portion of their lives, there’s a ton of Athens favorites that every Bobcat who walks the brick streets of Athens ought to try before walking the stage. So here it is: The Ultimate Athens Ohio Bucket List.
There are plenty of great places to eat. Big Mamma’s, Union Street Diner, Goodfellas, are just a few of the late night gems of Athens, and they’re bound to be part of the unforgettable memories you’ll want to have before graduation.
Every Tuesday night at 9p.m., Donkey hosts an evening known as Designated Space where anybody can get up and share poetry, stories, or any kind of writing they’d like to share.
If you haven’t gone to the ridges to check out what is supposedly the most haunted spot in Ohio, you haven’t really been to Athens. If you’re a little more daring, a night trip to the eerie spot just off the roundabout will be sure to send a couple shivers down your spine. Definitely an Athens must.
These 2 famous spots offer some of the best scenery there is in our small southeastern Ohio town. Of course, all of Athens is gorgeous, but a trip up Bong Hill to watch the sunset really hits the spot. Take a few hours away from studying and hike up there with a few friends. It’s worth it.
If you’ve got space on your schedule, you should search through the course catalogue for something that you want to learn more about. Personally, I’d highly recommend CLWR 2210 and ASTR 1400. Neither of those classes filled a requirement for me but they’re some of the best courses I’ve taken in my time here.
More commonly known as the Fun Barn, this tiny little movie theater on Route 33 towards Nelsonville isn’t just awesome because of its cheap snacks and $4 tickets, but it’s also home to a solid arcade. Take some time to visit this place with friends and catch the latest flick.
Fest season in Athens is a great time. Entire streets spend a weekend taken over by party-goers, and if you’ve got a solid group of friends to hang with, it can be a great time. Just don’t cause too much trouble, ask before petting police horses, and remember to fest with respect if you want to have a good time.
Stroud’s Run is a great spot to go for a hike during the day, and it’s an even better spot to lay out on the beach with some friends at night to watch the stars circle the night sky. Since it’s a couple miles off campus, there’s a lot less light pollution to smother the stars and you’ll see a lot more than you’d get on campus.
